yeh that's right,:confused but I mean did they gain a negative charge or positive, because I thought that the cloth 'brushed' the electrons of the rod giving the rod a positive charge and because they both have the same charge they repel. Did I get that wrong?

Im not sure, didn't think about that i just wrote negative straight away for a reason I can't remember. You will get a chunk of the marks for saying that they repel each other due to them having the same charge though.
