Re: 2012 higher mathsYeah after paper 1 I was feeling confident but no.. Come paper 2 and I literally died D: I really hope it does get lowered :/ it wasn't fair In the slightest... Really a/b based(Original post by shonaghd28)
i feel the same :L i was totally fine throughtout the whole exam then when i looked at the last page i was like wft is this :L but dont worry most of the people i have talked too feel the same way so fingers crossed the pass mark will be lowered

Most exams this year are meant to be really hard.. Including higher computing too because the standard grade credit was really challenging and difficult for a credit.. I mean there were questions in that that the teachers couldn't even get their heads around at my school D: -
Re: 2012 higher mathsNope(Original post by Jim5800)
Well, did you write 4^x = 3^(2-x) ? Might get a mark for that, it's what I did.
I didn't even start it....

Re: 2012 higher mathsAnd 'rough' is a bit of an understatement(Original post by Babb_zz)
The paper was a really rough paper, surely they should lower the pass mark, I really do feel sorry for the new writer who wrote the maths paper, YOU sir have pissed me off

Re: 2012 higher maths
The head of maths in my school was pretty furious with the SQA for that paper. He thinks that they'll need to look over the paper at markers' meetings over the summer because of how unfair it was (like you said, with the majority of the paper 2 questions being A questions)
I was repeating the subject this year, getting 90% in the prelims, and now I just want to cry... -
Re: 2012 higher maths
I just feel really gutted as I've worked so hard all year. I went right back to 2002 past papers and was getting high B's low A's in most of them. I found paper 1 pretty basic so I thought I was closer to getting an A and then paper 2 I felt like crying! Does anyone know roughly what the cut off's will be since it was such a bad paper?

Re: 2012 higher maths
Ugh I know how you feel! I've worked as hard as I could over the whole year - even going back to 1992 in past papers (!!) - and still found paper two insane and obscure!
it's like all my effort was for nothing because there was no way I could have prepared for some of those questions. I just hope the pass marks are lowered so I can get my A that I so badly want
-
Re: 2012 higher maths
it was truly horrid, the pass marks will HAVE to be lowered surely, did past papers from 99 - 03 and 07-11 and i don't think anything would have prepared me for some of those questions and will get in august an undeserving C instead of a deserving B/A
will be re-sitting it no doubt school is cruel.......
-
yes, paper 2 was a disgusting paper, especially 6 and 7 i think you will have gained more marks than you think you have(Original post by lynxano)

Re: 2012 higher maths
Exactly! No matter how much revision we could have done, some of those questions were so obscure that we just couldn't have practised them or anything like them!
Although, apparently the writer himself wants the pass boundaries to be 50%, 60% and 70% so we would need around 91 marks to get an A... still don't know if I got that though..

Re: 2012 higher mathsI didn't sit it, but I thought it looked OK and not that much of a horror. Bit harder than normal maybe, but doable. I'll be doing AH next year though, that's why I looked over it/take an interest.(Original post by Reece:))

Yeah my subject/exam arrangement is a bit weird
! i would agree its doable
but i think for a candidate turn over to a question like 7 and do it is rare:/ personally i think i managed to get 3 or 4 out of 6 and my carried error should get me my 2 for b
i think paper 1 was fair but yeah paper 2 was the hardest iv seen, but doable
!
