    I thought the speciation was 6 marks meh probably wasted time on that and out of curiousity what did you guys actually put for the transect one?
    Speciation was alright - just too many graphs
    And ooh what did you put for fossils as evidence of evolution????

    Since I looked at the mark scheme for this paper over the years this is what I think the marks scheme are but I may be wrong
    A* = 48+
    A = 38-42
    B = half way around 28-35 ish
    C = 20 or something

    This is my estimate I'm probably wrong what do you guys think?
    I've completely messed up the cystic fibrosis diagram I couldn't remember what to do, I completely sucked :/

    The speciation one was 6 marks but it wasn't marked on grammar and punctuation so you could've just put down the key points, but i hardly put any of the right points, so i would be surprised if i got like 2-3 marks? :/

    In the first question where it asked me to name 3 things they had to control, I wrote four down to be safe, would I lose any marks, and also what did you guys put down for that question If I remember correctly I put down:
    Age and Sex of the athletes
    Amount of glycogen they began with
    How long they exercised every 24 hours
    The diet of the athletes

    I'm not sure, but I think that the first three are right, but they 4th was definitely wrong because the diet is what they controlled.

    Did you explain all four 4 factors of speciation, or give possible reasons, such as an earthquake etc?
    yesss, and said they could breed to produce fertile offspring at the end!

    The onions were variated because they had chromosones from either parents which means the new variety of onion is genetically different from the others, you would have gained 1 mark, however i think to get the other one you had to mention meiosis

    I think to get the six marks:
    -Use of transects
    -using quadrats to gain data
    -how it is reliable equals 2 marks
    -how it is valid equals 2 marks

    that grade boundaries for an A* will be lower than usual as the test was quite hard (low to mid forties)

    Teacher agreed that it was a nasty paper and we all think that because of this the grade boundaries should be lower...HOWEVER our teacher says that the government want less people to get A*s, so they're increasing the grade boundaries by about 15%...which means that you have to get about 85% to get an A*.

    I found it annoying how there were no enzymes questions, which was quite a main topic, whereas there was a massive 6 marker on transects which compared to the enzymes topic seemed relatively unimportant! Didn't get that measuring bacteria question- I'm no good at Maths!

    Good luck for Chem tomorrow!

    Re: AQA GCSE BIOLOGY (new specification) B2 21/5/12
    Oh, and the grade boundaries for this exam should be similar or slightly lower than the January exam because most people say that they found it harder (more how science works questions, rather than the actual syllabus) so my teacher estimated that it would be roughly 45 - 48 (75 - 80%) for an a*, and 37 - 38 for and a.
    Also, did anyone find it weird that there were 2 6 mark questions rather than one. (I know that only the first one was QWC)

    Does anyone know when the results come through? I'm really worried I really messed up the QWC question and I needed to ace this one to get my average up for an a* think a re-take is on the cards...
