It depends what units you're doing because you'll probably have 2 half units in there somewhere (maybe maths and stats?) and those and any other half units or level 2 units will complicate it somewhat. Basically the way to work it out is like this:

    Level 3 points per credit: pass-7, merit-8, distinction-9

    Level 2 points per credit: pass-5, merit-6, distinction-7

Most units are level 3 and worth 10 credits (full unit) but some units like unit 6 (maths) are level 2 and that particular one is worth 5 credits (half unit).

If you're doing the same 6 core units as I've done and then statistics and 5 other units then it will work out like this:

All units except maths and stats- Pass: 70, merit: 80, distinction: 90

    Maths: pass-25, merit-30, distinction-35

    Stats: pass-35, merit-40, distinction-45

You add up all the points against the grade boundaries which can be found on the edexcel website. I don't know what they are for 12 units but I know that on my course (18 units) you need 1500 points for DDD, 1590 for D*D*D*. You need to bear in mind that all units must be at least passed for you to get any grade in it even if the points add up and any extra units that you do (surplus to the 120 credits- 12 full 10 credit units including maths and stats) won't be counted towards your grade.

grade calculator easy to use if you know all your grades and the value of the units.
if you don't know you can play around with the grades to give you an idea of how different grades for units affects the overall grade
is this what you are looking for?

but im not sure if its correct seems odd that getting 12 Merits give you an overall DM?

according to the calculator you only need 4 D for an overall DD

but remember you can get D*D* now.

Thankyou for this, however i am slightly confused,

i am doing 12 units all 10 credits apart from 2 which are 5 so i entered this up in the calculator and even if i get them all at D the highest i can come out with is DM which doesnt really seem correct?

If you're doing a 12 unit qualification then you will have to have 120 credits in order to pass. Perhaps you have miscalculated?
