    Should I Buy Skyrim?
I was in GAME today (rewarding myself for having just 2 exams left, like you do. ;p ) I picked up Uncharted 3 having played the previous 2 and loved them. I saw Skyrim on the shelf and nearly bought it but didn't in the end.

I've been reading a lot about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Now from what I've heard it's awesome and addictive, which sounds great, however, I usually only play FPS. I'm really not sure whether I like the idea of having no structure and running around wherever I want. It sounds fun obviously, but I don't spend that much time gaming so I thought 1 of 3 things would happen if I bought Skyrim:

-I love it and become a video game addict, since there's not really an ending unlike other games I've played.

-I carry on with my usual gaming habits and therefore only rack up a few hours on it. The max hours I've had on any game is like, 25 so wouldn't it be a bit of a waste on a game like Skyrim?

-Running around with so much to do overloads the system and it bores me a bit (never play magic/WoW like games.)

I know you're probably thinking 'option 1 doesn't sound too bad' and video games are really fun, but I already do too many time consuming hobbies as it is.

So if you think a really casual gamer like me would love skyrim some reasons why it would be a good purchase would be appreciated. (:

GET IT. I don't play many games a lot but my god I couldn't stop :L resulting in me not doing as much revision  I honestly had played it for 24 hours withing the first few days. My only advice would be to get it after your exams

A friend of mine reckons that Oblivion is actually better due to it being more RPG-like (or something like that, I wasn't really listening).

May as well get it. If you like it then at least you've got the longevity of it to keep you entertained. If you don't then you can always offload it to someone else for, say, a fiver less than you bought it for.
Ok, so you've lost a fiver. But if you find it boring then at least you know to stay away from those sort of games, and you can't put a price on knowledge

It's only worth getting if you are happy to say goodbye to your life for a few weeks... it's so easy to start playing with the intention of doing one quest or another to find that you've got nowhere with it 2 hours later because you've been strolling through the country finding stuffs.

If you like exploring a massive and pretty world on your own without quests or anything to guide you around then you'll like Skyrim. Don't bother with it if you want a tight story-driven experience in any of the quests though, since without exception their pretty badly written.

    Re: Should I Buy Skyrim?
I'm a bit like you, in gaming style and genres I generally play. However, I was persuaded to buy Skyrim over a couple of other games by the chap in the shop. I wasn't sure I'd like it, and truth be told I didn't at first - I turned it off after a few hours, completely uninspired by it, and didn't play it again for a week or so. Then I watched a couple of YouTube videos about it and thought that the game they were playing looked a lot more enjoyable than the game I'd played, so I turned it back on, started a new game. Tried to get out of the mindset of progressing from one quest objective to the next as fast as possible ... and started to have fun.

It is completely stress-free. I love the Uncharted series, but there are times when I just get wound up playing them. Not with Skyrim. There's no bonus for playing it on a hard level, so if you've died a couple of times, take the difficulty down and enjoy defeating an enemy with practically no health (for this reason, I'd recommend not routinely playing on the easiest setting: if you did, you'd have nothing to go to. ) You can do what you want when you want. Don't fancy defeating that dude right now? Run away and do something different. Bored of these quests? Start another one ... or don't, just wander around, whichever you want. If you really like one of the towns, you can practically live there - in fact, you can live there! There's a main storyline, but no obligation to follow it; I'm level twenty-something, and only have a few of the main quests under my belt. Instead, I enjoyed doing the other quests, became the leader of one of the organisations, joined a few of the others, took a side in the war... I'll do bits of it as and when I feel like it. You can make your character whatever you want - thief, assassin, mage... - and change it when you want as well.

Someone said the quests are badly written. I disagree. They are perhaps a bit thin on plot, but they're almost without fail enjoyable to do, and succeed very well in their main function, which is to get you to wander around the beautiful-looking world, explore every nook and cranny.

TL;DR: It's a different sort of gaming style. If you think you can let go of progressing to the next quest as quickly as possible, buy it and do just that - it can be a lot of fun.

It's good untill the endgame, the end is so shallow once you've looted everything once and done all the quests and side quests there's nothing to do.

The thing about Skyrim is that it needs to take over your life. You can't just play it for a few hours. It's HUGE!! I've put 130 hours into it just doing things other than the main quest. Every time I think "right, I'm going to that dot on the map to get that mission done" I end up getting side tracked on the way and it takes about 2 hours just to get there. Also, the world is gorgeous. It has a day night cycle so you can just find a stream next to some mountains and watch the sun set behind them.

If you're worried about having too much to do with no aim, you can discipline yourself and focus on one thing. There's the main quest, and there are guilds which have their own quest lines. There's a structure behind it all, though like I said, it's easy to get distracted.

If you're going to get it, do not get it before exams.....!
Personally I'm not going to get it at all, not even for summer hols as I know I will become extremely addicted to it as I always do with games, I will feel guilty of how unproductive I have been and wish I'd never started playing it.

Yeah, but try and buy it from one of the Khajiits. They have it much cheaper.

Word of warning: It's easy to overpower your character, and when you do, it gets boring fast.

I've started the game twice and both times played roughly 60 hours. First character was a Warrior type... he eventually become basically untouchable (heavily enchanted daedric armour) and could one hit kill pretty much anything (a few swipes for dragons...) with high weapon skills + enchantments. Boring

Started over recently playing a "strictly mage" character. Whilst the "untouchable" thing didn't happen and I could be killed easily enough if I didn't duck, dodge, dive and dodge around a bit... in terms of CAUSING damage I think I was somehow even more over-powered than the Warrior :/. And I've heard destruction magic is meant to be a bit weak in the game! My experience of it... was that a well placed fireball could fry 80% of enemies, and a well placed fireball + a rune would nuke anything else. Again, boring! I started the Dark Brotherhood questline hoping to spice it up... but it seems that's best suited to early-game characters. Because my evil character sneaking about to kill people seemed daft when she could wipe out the entire town without breaking a sweat.

So yeah... be careful with what you level, keep it interesting, and it is a great game! Maaaybe role-play that your character is somehow magically crippled, and so can't be a mage or use enchantment. At all. In fact, maybe use the toolset to replace enchantment tables with massive stacks of cheese. I might do that next time!

Yes, after 400 hours of gametime you have nothing to do.

It's a good game but it suffers a lot from overtype.
I liked it but my expectations were a lot higher then what the game actually delivered.

Oh and if you can get it on PC. You can mod the game so it will extent its replay-ability
