AS grades - Applying for Uni
Apologies as I'm sure this kind of thread has been done before, but I couldn't find specifically what I was looking for.

Basically, I think mainly because of my own basic lack of work and revision this year I'm going to end up underachieving with disappointing AS grades. In my opinion i've got good grasps of the subjects, and A's in coursework, so optimistically I think I would be able to turn it around with a couple of re-sits in January, but I was just wondering what kind of quality/prestige of Universities I might be able to get an offer from with a mix of B's, C's, and D's at AS.

Obviously a Russell group uni would be ideal, what kind of AS grades are generally needed for an offer for, say, English Lit at Liverpool (AAB)?

Also, I know predicted grades play a big part. I've no idea what mine are currently, but if they're not great, can you just ask lecturers to give a good predicted grade, within reason?

I'm not sure if this applies to your choice in course or whatever. But I know for medicine they don't tend to look at AS grades, but more at the predictions. As long as you can get predicted enough for the requirements you should be okay as long as you meet them at the end of A2 year if you're lucky enough to get an offer.

I know people that have gotten BBB at AS level, however still received offers since their predictions were AAA.

Sit down with your tutor and talk about what grades you need and see if they will predict you what you need. They can't be un-realistic so don't expect all A's if you haven't necessarily worked as hard as you could've throughout the year.

I got A, B, C, C, D at AS Level however my predicted grades were ABB. I received interviews for all 5 of my choices and 4 out of 5 offers as I withdrew from the fifth one.
I applied to Liverpool, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Nottingham and Keele, 4 of which are russel group. As long as you have the right predicted grades and a cracking personal statement you'll get offers

    Thanks for your replies.

Hopefully I'll scrape through this year with something like B,B,C,C due to the good coursework, and then beg my teachers for good predictions!
