Re: OCR GCSE English Literature 22nd May 2012Haha yep the exam was a blur. xD(Original post by la2012)
Mine wasn't structured that well, I also missed out a critical point (can't even remember what now!!) so i had to add that in with an asterisk. I basically went through it chronologically but tried to hide that by adding in quotes from other bits of the play here and there. I could have structured it better but because of time pressure, I didn't really have that much time to pre-plan! Did you include much contextual knowledge?
Well for contextual knowledge I did a average-ish paragraph (less than half a page). My main points were that the extract creates a larger impression because normally in Maycomb there are large divides between communities but here there are 2 white children among a gathering of black people. I also put something about how Scout represents change as her generation haven't taken up the prejudices in society (yet). I can't remember how I linked that to the question though!
How about you? -

erm, i can't quite remember, I spoke a bit about how different the Finch family is in comparison with the prejudice in Maycomb but I couldn't really figure out how to link it all to the question!

Re: OCR GCSE English Literature 22nd May 2012Yeah linking the context stuff was the hard part of the exam.(Original post by la2012)

But I didn't have much time to think of creative ways to link it since we only had 45 mins! Haha.
Well fingers crossed that it went down OK with the examiners!
Oh and I'm assuming you have the prose and poetry exam tomorrow? Good luck for that! -
Re: OCR GCSE English Literature 22nd May 2012You needed to talk about Crooks so well done for that.(Original post by Abu95)
heyy umm just need to know, for OMAM i did 1B and talked about Crooks, the title... and Curleys wife :/
but i included context
do you think even though i mentioned curleys wife i can get a high grade??
But talking about Curley's wife won't do you any favours. You may get marked down for that but it's more likely they'll just disregard it.
Context was very important so you still got a good chance of the A, maybe A* if your other points were written really well, along with a sophisticated intro/conclusion.

Re: OCR GCSE English Literature 22nd May 2012
Oh god, I did the extract for oMaM, and I wrote things completely different! I commented on George and Lennies friendship, and George defended Lennie, Curley's dominance and bullying demeanour, and his animalistic qualities, e.g 'pugnacious'. He's also compared to an animal, like Lennie in chapter one, but whilst Lennie does not control his attribute, Curley is very much aware of it, and uses it to intimidate people!

Re: OCR GCSE English Literature 22nd May 2012You will only be marked for Crooks not Curley's wife (WILL BE IGNORED UNFORTUNATELY)(Original post by Abu95)

Although, a useful thing to comment on could be when Curley's wife told Crooks of in his own room. There, you could talk about prejudice and the fact that he is so weak that he is being told off by a character with no identity.
But yes, you will only be marked for one character
