The new episodes of the Simpsons
What does TSR think of the new Simpsons episodes (ie episodes from 2002/3 +)?
Personally I think the quality of the show has declined so much that I refuse to watch it. The characters have all become one-dimensional characitures of themselves and the episodes have poor plots and are just celebrity endorsed crap (eg Moe on American Idol or the Lady Gaga episode) Episodes like 'that 90s show' are just god-awful.
It reached its zenith at around season 8 (circa 1996) so why can't the shows producers just end it? It's a 90s show. It doesn't belong in this era.

Re: The new episodes of the Simpsons
From about Season 1-9 are the "classics" whilst seasons 10-16 are decent with some really good episodes. Even 17-19 are not that bad, but once you get into 20 and beyond that's when things turn truly bad. As in someone like me, a diehard Simpsons fan, would change the channel over the chance of hoping to see a good episode for once to watch some other show I've hardly watched.

Re: The new episodes of the SimpsonsIt still has the occasional moments of quality but the average old episode (seasons 5 through 10) are better than the average episode from the following seasons.

Re: The new episodes of the Simpsons
It ended for me with Catch 'Em If You Can, the episode where Homer and Marge abandon the kids; they go on a second honeymoon and fly to several locations around the US trying to dodge Bart and Lisa, who are following them. I just thought the whole concept was stupid and the characters were acting in a way that they never would have in the mid-90s (mainly, Marge and Homer wishing that they'd never had children), indicating that the series had lost its way. Not because they were deliberately changing the characters but simply because they'd run out of ideas and the quality of the staff had clearly declined. I haven't really watched it since.

Re: The new episodes of the Simpsons
I re-watched all the first 8 seasons just a few months ago. The quality of them still stands up well today.
Sadly it went all down hill after that, apart from the occasional great episode. -
Re: The new episodes of the Simpsons
Yeah it's just not worth anyone's time any more. You do get the occasional half decent episode but simply nothing like enough to be worth slogging your way through the dirge to find them. A shame as it's without any doubt whatsoever up there near the top of the ten best television shows of all time. The gag and hit rate for about ten seasons or so was just absolutely phenomenal, the characters were fantastic and they wrote dozens of just sublime episodes. Truly monumental piece of work.

Re: The new episodes of the Simpsons
The Simpsons hasn't really been good since the 90's. It's a huge shame as it's got to the point where Im actually ashamed to say to people that I'm a fan of the show. The bad episodes now number more than the good episodes.
It's a problem with American TV in general though. If its a popular show they'll milk it for every penny. It's happened with Family Guy, South Park and countless others. It ruins the legacy. -
Re: The new episodes of the Simpsonssome manage to keep up though. King of The Hill did, what 12/13 seasons and was probably the most consistently brilliant show of all time. I don't think there's a bad episode in there out of two hundred and something, and very few average ones.(Original post by JohnnytheFox)

South Park has maintained enough quality episodes to be worth watching though, I think. Whereas family guy was only briefly any good, then it wore thin, then it got even ****ter.Last edited by Mister Dead; 22-05-2012 at 01:20.
