The fact that this seems to be in China (the radio was in Chinese at least) really scared me. When I was in Beijing for my year abroad I had a few terrifyingly fast taxi journeys when I thought something like this might happen. Scary seeing this from the driver's POV.
How did you manage that? My parents spent just over three years in Beijing and it was good when taxis got above a fast jog!

Haha yes there were plenty of those as well! The fast ones were mostly out of town, airport taxis etc.

How is it weird? It's my thing that I do. Ever heard of individuality?

    <3 x
Yeah, but it's an insincere mark of affection? I mean, you probably wouldn't kiss me after you said something to me in real life? Or maybe you do

On the subject of stopping or not, it's the law to stop in France, it's called the Good Samaritan Law.

I have a job in France until September, on the drive down with my parents, exe watched a car drive right up the back side of a HGV. We had to pull over in the hard shoulder in between the HGV and the car. We put out the obligatory warning triangle at the start of the debris on the road. We put on our obligatory fluorescent jackets and got out of the car.

Notice the word, obligatory? The french have a much better grip on road saftey than we do. We could learn some lessons from them.

It was on a busy motorway. We were the only people that stopped to help. The HGV driver didn't even realise anything had happened until he saw the debris in his mirror.

I'm a first aider so did what I could to help the driver, but he was lucky, VERY lucky. He was driving a new BMW with airbags everywhere, which definitely saved his life, but I would still have stopped to help whether I thought he would live or not.

I didn't have a lot with me first aid wise, a small first aid kit with plasters, wipes etc but not enough to deal with anything like that.

He was already out of the car when I got to him. He was already in shock, with a broken pelvis and head injuries. All I could do was keep him warm and clean him up a bit. It took the pompier 20 minutes to show up,

I would have done exactly the same even without a first aid qualification and with worse injuries.

Whether you have IVs and spinal boards or not, you are still human. If you were lying there, trapped in a car, in pain, waiting for the emergency services, thinking you were going to Die, what would you want? To just hear people driving past without stopping to help, or slowing down so they can see what's going on? Or would you want someone to get out and try and help? Someone to talk to you? Someone to let you know what's going on?

Sometimes thats all it takes, sometimes keeping someone calm and keeping them talking makes all the différence.

Don't be heartless, get out of your car and your own self absorbed bubble and help another human being.

Again, what would they have done? Grab the jaws of life out of the back of their Polo, cut them out, sling on a neck collar and put them on a spinal board? With oxygen and IV fluids ready for the paramedics to arrive?
Firstly, you dont need to get them out. You shouldnt move them, and even if they are outside the vehicle they should be told to sit against something or lie down. This doesnt mean you couldnt treat them, or potentially move them from greater harm.
maybe they are still concious, trapped and ****ing scared, and somebody coming along just to talk to them would be of enourmous benefit.

and FYI, the biggest risk if they arent dead is catastrophic bleeding. taking off your t-shirt and at least reducing the bleeding from a major haemorage in the first minutes after the incident can be the difference between somebody living and dying.

behind that, shock is a massive threat and can kill, so somebody standing there telling them help is on the way and they arent alone could actually keep them alive.

thats why you stop, because of the 10% chance you could save them.

And yet more people die on their roads than die on ours. Have you ever tried to drive round the Arc de Triomphe????

Common sense is much better than rules. Hazard warning lights are at least as effective as warning triangles, and while high viz jackets are good, its daft to make them mandatory.

This is why I always tell my little brother to move off slowly and look left/right on these junctions. People always jump the light.

That Ferrari must've been doing 90-100mph, I don't think you'd even see it coming. What a reckless bastard. Hope he goes to prison for that-- two dead? Wow
    3 dead in that crash.

It was doing around 130km/h at impact.

    Did their tyre blow out?

That's in the US? Things can be pretty wierd there in terms of people being good to each other.

I've seen a lot of really crazy driving in America, my Mum was driving me and my Sister on I5 outside Seattle one time, this pickup truck was hammering past at 80, then he decided he didn't like being on our side of the road. The I5 is this huge freeway but it had no central barrier in that part like the motorways do here. He just stopped dead then slowly did a series of manoeuvers and then crossed the middle and off in the other direction.

Meanwhile, behind, utter chaos and madness, about 50 cars and trucks doing slaloms and amazingly, just missing each other.

He shook his fist at all the people giving him the horn.
This video was taken in Taiwan.

I remember that I5 stretch where there are no barriers in the centre, scary as hell to drive on them especially in the winter months when there are black ice.

One thing for sure, there are crazy drivers everywhere.

They do start to drive crazy once they get on the ring roads.

Beijing is also a very big area, some areas are relatively less congested but those areas are becoming rarer by the month.

    In his early 30s.

He had a few too many to drink indeed.

It's not really a common thing to stop at accident sites in much of Asia, some parts you stop and you just might get robbed or someone would also stop to drive off with your vehicle.

The other reason why it's rare for someone to stop at a crash site in Asia is there is generally a taboo and superstition with anything to do with death or someone dying in your presence, so it isn't usual in such a situation that people choose to drive off.

ah yes sorry, didnt notice that it was in Asia
unfortunatly though it does happen in Britain to ... half the bloody traffic jams on the motor ways arent due to the crash as such its everyone slowing down to have a stare out the window :L

You need a first aid kit and (from July) a self breathaliser too.

Hazard lights aren't always as useful. They wouldn't have worked in is case. The car got stuck on the underside of the HGV for a hundred metres, maybe a bit less. There was debris on the road, way before where the car were parked. The warning triangle acted as a warning to other drivers about everything that was lying in the road before they could see the cars.

They have more people dying because of drinking BUT less dying because of speed.

Both videos have really made me question humanity - would you really just carry on driving? I for one would be far too shaken! Just so fast.

which makes you a risk of causing another accident. why would people stop? Its a motorway you DONT stop on it unless its an emergency, if your past the accident your not going to stop and run back. and besides what are you going to do perform emergency surgery at the side of the road with a keyfob a can a redbull and an old carrier bag.

and before anyone pulls me on it - its an emergency that involves you. Moral obligation aside - the number one rule of first aid is DONT PUT YOURSELF AT RISK.

stopping on a motorway and getting out - clarifies as a risk.
