TARGET chances City law for ethnic minoritiesHey,
Just got an e-mail about this from TARGETjobs and wanted to check whether anyone has ever attended or are planning to go this year? Figured even though I'm just in my first year, I should still be looking to get some experience. Watched the video and seemed good.

Re: TARGET chances City law for ethnic minoritiesI attended a couple of years ago and it's great - you can put it on your application forms for VS next year as evidence you've gone away to find out more about a career in law. There really is only so much impressing you can do during it so just try and enjoy it and soak up as much information as you can. Well done

Re: TARGET chances City law for ethnic minoritiesI attended a few years ago as well. It's very useful, you're given a chance to ask as many questions as you want in an informal environment. In your first year there isn't an awful lot you can do to demonstrate your interest in corporate law, but this is one of the few ways you can. Agreeing with the above, just enjoy the day. I remember one girl who was embarrassing numerous trainees at one firm by asking them if she can shadow them over the summer.

Had my interview! Lady was really nice, and seemed encouraging! Not sure though cause its so popular! And I am always so unlucky with things like this so I doubt that I will get it.
but it was a good chance to have a phone interview though, obv good practice for vac schemes and training contracts etc!

These typically for reasons such as them not being exposed to these types of careers or being put off due to te lack of ethnic minorities. Hence, events like these are there to increase applicants from these underrepresented groups. There's some for working class people, women, LGBT and other groups that are underrepresented. They aren't guaranteed anything. It's just increasing applicants.(Original post by Aspiringlawstudent)

Its showing that non whites are superior as they can only apply as whites are not good enough aka racism.
You must be from an ethnic minority background as detailed in the Census Report 2001.

Other way round mate; the City firms feel that ethnic minorities may not be encouraged to access the City law firms, especially when they are of the standard that is achieved by non-ethnic minorities.
I don't necessarily support these schemes, but I find it hard to support the viewpoint that we should denigrate them, just because they are targeting ethnic minorities. -

Also, I remember passing the interview and then getting an email saying that if I've got any friends interested, just give them their details and they'll automatically qualify too lmao.
