University of Leiden/The Hague!

Is anyone else going to University of Leiden or the Hague? Or has anyone been? I have accepted a place with Leiden, at the Hague campus for International Studies. Never been to Holland before, I'm hoping it will be a good experience!

Hiya, I was also considering studying in Holland but I'm not quite sure.
There courses are slightly different to ours in the UK.

I was also wondering whether international studies is like international relations and politics combined?
Thanks

From what I gather it is a mix of politics/economics/history and language  A good broad degree. There is a good breakdown on the website. You choose a world area and language that you specialize in. Eg - Latin America and Spanish.

Groningen University do an International Relations and Organization course that I have been told is more political science based, the one at Leiden is more "humanities" focused.

I think Holland has a good choice of bachelors in English to be honest, International business, various law options, a "Liberal Arts" program which covers all subject areas, psychology, economics and several science/IT based ones (don't know specifics as I don't do science)

No I dont have any family in Holland, it is not that far it's only the same as living in the North of England and going to uni in the South! Different culture, but everyone speaks English so I don't expect it to be a big shock. I have lived happily away from home before, so the fact of being away from Britain didn't even come into my decision.

Going to Leiden also!

Masters of Public International Law.

Very excited, the netherlands is a great place!

The quality of the education for the price (if you are HOME/EU) surpasses what is on offer in the UK, with fees being <10% of UK fees due to generous government subsidies! Make the most of it, especially in any field studying international 'something' as such cities as the Hague and Brussels (in Belgium in know! BUT close) are at your doorset and guest lecturers are abundant!

Starting the MA in European Union Studies in Sept - though I believe this may have been rechristened as a specialisation of the MA in International Relations (Humanities) following a departmental rejigging. Think my classes are split between Leiden and The Hague. Guess I'll find out soon enough!

And yes, everyone here from the UK should give themselves a pat on the back for avoiding outrageous British tuition fees!

I'm going to Leiden on Erasmus in September. I'm wandering if anyone applied for university accommodation. As I haven't heard much from the Housing Office after handing over a 500 euro deposit...

I think the allocation of accommodation is based on when you paid your deposit, I paid mine in Feb and have only just heard back from them, so I guess they are gradually working through the lists

I'm considering applying to Leiden for International Studies, it looks like a really interesting course to study and fits my interests perfectly, the university also looks great, although i'm still unsure on a few things, i've only very recently began looking into studying in Holland.

What are people's opinions on the International Studies course? Would it be a good degree to have do you think?

Also, as far as the entry requirements go. I've read up on as much as I can find online, but there's still some things i'd like to know.
It simply specifies, GCSE's and 3 A-levels. Is there a minimum grade for the A-levels? Just 3 passes? or A-C or something like that?
Also, as well as A-levels, I have a Foundation Diploma, which is a level up from A-levels, sort of a Year 0 of a degree. Could this also be used towards my entry? (I have emailed them asking these things, they just haven't gotten back yet, so i'd see whether anybody here could help!)

I'm pretty sure there is no grade boundaries for the A-levels, just pass them i.e. grades A-E. Sorry, I can't help with the other questions!!

Ah no worries. Thanks though! that's the main thing I was curious about anyway!
I guess the question about my foundation doesn't matter so much as my 3 a-levels alone fill the entry requirements, I just thought it might be good to mention. Maybe i'll just put a line about it in the personal statement or something.

I had a quick look at the at online application and started filling in some bits and there wasn't a space in the qualifications section for me to put the foundation anyway, or GCSE's for that matter, just a-levels and a degree (if I was applying to an MA, which i'm not)

I realise you wrote this a long time ago, but are you talking about the undergrad course or the masters? I'd like to apply for the masters but if there is a language I will struggle.

Thanks!
Leiden is a lovely city. Good luck to you.

I have applied for the International Communications Management Course and can't believe the tuition fees amount to only £1,400! I have just submitted my student finance application through UCAS and it is being processed. Does anybody know if this is feasible through UCAS or will it need to be with the dutch government?

Sorry for life story/boring you/being slightly unrelated to thread,
many thanks!
