Aeronautical vs Mechanical
I'm probably going to be applying for Aeronautical Engineering but I want to know whether Mechanical is similar to Aero?
I'm hoping you could answer some of these questions:
- Is the course structure similar?
- Could I use a more Aero based personal statement to apply for a Mech degree at some Unis?
- Will there be large differences in job prospects for both courses?
- In your opinion, which Unis offer the best Aeronautical and Mechanical courses?
Thanks!

-yes
-not really but mechanical is broader
-Imperial -
Re: Aeronautical vs MechanicalBoth courses share the same first year so you can easily switch between the two if you don't like the one you are on.(Original post by pixelfrag)

In the ps you can as if you do a masters you can pick specific modules and it shows you have a wide interest in engineering.
Not really but you will be more skilled in aerodynamics with aero.
Cambridge, imperial and Southampton but all the courses are accredited so they are of a similar standard. -
Re: Aeronautical vs MechanicalActually the first year is not the same in all places - only in universities where the specialisation takes place after the 1st year.(Original post by Willheath)

For example, at Imperial, 1st year aero eng students have a module called "Aircraft Performance" which I doubt Mech eng do

Pretty sure you can still switch. When I was at Cardiff they said you can switch between aero, mechanical, EE, civil and medical and they all have specialist units in the first year
