well there are no habitable lands that britain owns that we could still do that. So we have to look at the alternative - which is pay the Burmese govnt £100 dollars a head per annum to house our worsed long term convicts. We will save a fortune, as britain did using australia as a convict colony
well, correct me if im wrong, i believe the americans lease in Diego Garcia is due to run out in the relatively near future ... when theyve gone dump them there, itll be sort of like lord of the flied  and completely free!

put them in space, but make sure the president's daughter doesn't go on a 'humanitarian mission' :zomg:
ahh i can just imagine that, sort of like out of one of the simpsons episodes, when the earth is being destroyed by the millenium bug and theres two rockets ... one saves everyone on mars the other sends the undesirables into the sun

Or we could create a series of man-made islands with megaprisons on them, and enough of a distance from the shore to prevent prisoners escaping (or guaranteeing death if they try).

If we send them to a place where they get the death penalty... Well, let's just say our friends at Strasbourg aren't going to be too happy.
    Neither will our own courts

think about it- first time offender for minor cirmes would maybe get a short scentece in a UK prison- he knows if he re-offends he is goin to serve his time in some russian, burmese, chinese, cambodian etc etc hell-hole prison - he might think tiwce about acting the petty thief/gangster/hooligan etc a second time
Nope. He'll just be prepared to do anything and everything in his power to cover his crime up.

Considering the few countries that still torture prisoners most probably have capital punishment in place...I somehow doubt they will be getting any compensation...
You'd be surprised. This is where the whole problem with sending terror suspects back to their own country lies. You can't send them back if it is a possibility that they will be tortured or killed on their return. And the block on one prisoner or another's deportation has happened in relation to more foreign countries than you'd expect.

This would not reduce crime rates, just look to America to see how bad prisons do not act as a deterent,

or we could make our prisons hell holes to deter it first time round? At the end of the day, they are criminals...

and spend more money to convert uk hotel-style prisons into hell-holes? naah, not realistic. currently the prison system is only a deterent to 'accidental' criminals like the average joe, to deter serious that violent/terrorist/career criminals, they need to go to a prison regieme where 'hell-hole' principle is put into pratice
