A History of Christianity: The First Three Thousand Years
I'm talking about this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0...pf_rd_i=468294

Anyone else read it? I'm almost half way through. I love Diarmaid McCulloch and he manages to present 2,000 years of Christian history in a concise but deeply interesting manner.

I'm a history buff anyway, and this books covers loads: the Roman Empire's conversion to Christianity, Charlemagne, the challenge of Islam, the Crusades and the break away of Protestantism from the Church.

Anyone else have any other decent sources on Christian history?

I've flipped through it during my studies. He is a good writer. Here's mine:

The World of the Early Christians (1997) by J. F. Kelly is a particularly good read, as is The Rise of Christianity (1986) by W. H.C. Frend; and also The Early Christian Centuries (2002) by Philip Roussea.

I borrowed in order to read it to add some more context to an History essay, once, but never got the chance to read it. I think I'll have to borrow it again, it seemed really interesting, and I've got another essay which deals with similar material.
