Final Year Uni Exams - Administrative Errors!!!!
I have just finished three of my final year accounting exams, and throughout the three exams, there were about six admin errors, ie:

    1) questions werent written properly,
    2) wasnt provided with the relevant materials
    3) Invigilator announcing that there was a mistake on the paper, and half hour later, saying there wasnt actually a mistake (wasting time by redoing the questions).

    etc

So im a course rep and i have a general meeting coming up with the examiners do u think i should highlight the admin gliches, and if so, what do i expect to get out of it, do you think our grades could be increased?

I'd make an official complaint and encourage your coursemates to do the same, as that is incompetence of the highest order!!!

We had a similar issue on a paper, our hardest module, just happened to be, we are really cheesed off as we are supposed to have the option of 4 questions to do out of 6 , which effectively gave us less choice. So much anger on our courses freshers page..........all we got was that they'll see the difference in marks with last year best to go to the top

Yes, report the issue formally. The invigilator should have written some kind of report, but it helps that affected students report the issues too. The exam board should considered this and adjust the marks appropriately.

ah cool thanks, yeah i have a meeting coming up with the examiners so ill make sure i make a formal complaint. what makes me really angry is that i am on the borderlines of a 2.1 and a 1st, and those errors could potentially prove detrimental. and yeah most of my course mates were really cheesed off with the amount of errors we had experienced. the meeting is like two weeks before we get our final results, do u think it would be appropriate to complain after we get our grades or would it be too late by then?

hi there, by looking at last years marks, how did they use this to determine your grades?

They don't, they just look at the variance between last year's marks and this year's. If it's severe enough they take appropriate action e.g. Increase grades. Supposedly anyway, we tried it last year because the new exam format was basically questions (multiple choice) next to irrelevant to the module content that were virtually impossible to calculate correctly closed book (2 pages of working required for each and no marks for working.) The lecturer said it must be because we were all lazy students, yet they did nothing so thankful it was first year!

This the problem with university exams. The lecturer giving the course sets them, they should then be reviewed and moderated if necessary by an external reviewer (usually another lecturer at another institution familiar with the subject). The typos should be caught at that stage. But if there are comments and changed need to be made after review errors can occur.

The exam board tend to concentrate on scripts at borderlines of pass/fail and degree class boundaries. If the mark distribution curve is in the expected range. That it is why if there is an issue with an exam, that you flag it during the exam and follow up formally with as much support from the student group affected as possible. This should be done as soon as possible. If only one or two students complain and the distribution curve looks okay, it is less likely to have any impact.
