They're all pretty bad. I voted Miss Selfridge because, persistently, I'll find things in the sale labelled at a particular price only to get to the till to be told that it actually costs more. They'll never give you it for the labelled price, which is actually illegal. Of course I'm only going by the experience in the few I've been to.
And yeah, Primark is generally quite bad but I think thats only because they're so busy all the time. The staff themselves tend to be pleasant and attentive
I buy from H&M but I hate the quality of the clothes. Once I tried on a strappy top and both the straps fell off as I pulled it over my head. I had to give it back to the assistant who blamed me! Given it was a size too big it certainly wasn't a result of over stretching!
In River Island I tried on a dress - I went through 3 before I found one without a hole in the side seam. I ended up buying it and the seam broke the first time I put it on so that went straight back!
Customer service wise... Zara always seem very stuck up and I had one girl who told me she didn't like the top I was buying! -
Re: WORST high street shops ever!Yeah exactly. A bit irrelevant but a friend of mine worked in Toys R Us and apparently loads of stuff would have the wrong prices on. Most of the time they'd sell it for that price as otherwise it makes the company look bad as it was their mistake with the prices anyway.(Original post by fredscarecrow)

Primark is probably the worst of the lot. My friend works there though and she says it's horrible so I suppose you can't blame the staff for being miserable if it's that bad :P -
Re: WORST high street shops ever!
Primark have the strictest rules when trying on clothes - they treat you like you're an ex convict with that electric tag thing.
You're not allowed to try on jumpers, jackets and cardigans in the changing rooms which I think is a bit weird and the shop is generally like a sauna. Staff aren't too bad though, I guess they're just being told what to do by their managers. Yeah, their displays are usually a mess but that's generally due to people having no respect and throwing things around - I know it's their job to sort it out but there are boundaries.Last edited by Deziah; 25-05-2012 at 14:59. -
Re: WORST high street shops ever!I totally agree about Lush, even after you tell them you're fine they still keep coming up to you...(Original post by plimsolls)
Primark, but i don't mind the mess and the sullen shop assistants because its dirt cheap.
I personally hate Lush because the smell will fell a rhino at 1000 paces, and the sales act of the aggressive staff is annoying beyond words.
I was in the Lush in Covent Garden once and one of the sales assistants wouldn't leave me alone... I made it really clear that I was fine, but she insisted on dissolving a bath bomb in a bowl of water and letting me smell it. She then looked really offended when I said I didn't want to buy it! Lol -
Re: WORST high street shops ever!I'm pretty sure it is, it's false advertising, if it actually costs more than the price it's labelled for then technically trading standards can have them done for that. Although if there's a difference between trading standards and the law then I take it back haha(Original post by fredscarecrow)

Re: WORST high street shops ever!I don't know about trading standards, but that presumably only applies if every article of that item is mis-labelled. I don't know.(Original post by sammy-lou)

But, I know that the law in the UK means that the shop is not required to adhere to the price shown. It's to do with when the contract between the customer and shop occurrs or something (my dad explained it to me a while ago) and I know friends who have worked in shops/my own retail experience has explained this to be the case. -
Re: WORST high street shops ever!Yeah, I've heard the same thing, like it's their right to sell it for however much they want to sort of thing? I must be thinking of trading standards then. I don't know; I work in a supermarket and we're just told that we need to label everything up correctly because otherwise we can get in trouble with trading standards.(Original post by fredscarecrow)

You're probably right in that it has to be a persistent offence in order for them to actually prosecute -
Re: WORST high street shops ever!
WHSMith
I went in and asked if they had "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies". The lady went on the till search and pretended to type (blindingly obvious). Told me there was no such thing.
then I found the exact book about 3 meters from the till. i went and showed the lady and she didn't even apologise?
GUUUD :L i suppose I was kinda asking for it with enquiring about that particular book, but still. -

Re: WORST high street shops ever!
There are two Topshop stores near me, one of them has horrible customer assistants, they constantly ignore customers (they've recently put a barrier in front of the changing rooms which means you have to wait for someone to let you into the changing rooms) and have conversations with each other from opposite ends of the store, meaning they're constantly shouting at each other. On the other hand, the second store has lovely staff.
Hollister/Abercrombie/Gilly Hicks as well, although they're all pretty to look at, you get better customer service from a brick wall.Last edited by JKGB; 25-05-2012 at 16:19. -
Re: WORST high street shops ever!
Primark, all the way.
This one time I took a hairband and t-shirt to the till, except the hairband didn't have a price label attached to it. So this podgy-looking guy at the till, who clearly appears to hate his job and gives off the impression he doesn't give a damn about anything, takes a moment to realise that it doesn't have a price tag, and I tell him that it's exactly the same as some other hairbands that are £2. He doesn't believe me (understandably I suppose) so he calls another shop assistant to ask what the price is. He calls several times, with both of us waiting for this other person to report the price. All the time he hardly even looks at me or apologises. When this person does finally come she also has no idea what the price it is and gets angry with him. So this had probably taken more than 5 minutes and finally he decides to investigate where the hairbands are located so he can find the price. The accessories are on the same floor as the tills and I swear he takes about 10 minutes to find them and come back. At this point I felt extremely frustrated (one of my biggest pet peeves is bad customer service) and I angrily take my bag and leave. All this trouble for one stupid little hairband that cost £2. Seriously?!
Oh, and I swear most of the employees don't even speak English. They can't tell you where anything is when you go up to them for assistance.
