    Advanced Higher History 2012 Thread.
I couldn't find this, so thought I would make one
Any guesses what will come up? Are you prepared? What have you learned? What do you wish you have learned? What topic are you studying?
    We can also discuss dissertations

I'm doing the House Divided (American Civil War), and am pleased with my progress. I plan on learning one new essay between today and tomorrow, so I should hopefully get a B for the exam or maybe an A

But is anybody else nervous? I am

I am doing the same topic, and to be honest I've found it a bit tedious! I'm just going through all of the marking instructions trying to learn all of the historiography. Hopefully there'll be a nice causes of war question! Haven't looked at any of my paper two stuff yet but it's simple so shouldn't take too long!

I need to get a B in it, so I am just hoping the exam's not too bad - I am worried about the dissertation as well. Got an A for Higher but this course is sooo different!

I'm just hoping I can remember enough when the paper's in front of me!

Hey and yeah causes of the war would be excellent! as would differences between N + S before war, fall of two party system, and why North won! Please
And same I got an A in higher and I prefer this! hopefully the american civil war would be a choice for uni

I am also doing a house divided. A question on slavery would be a gift since the historiography is relatively easy to remember (Phillips and Stampp). As for paper 2, reasons for men joining Union/Confederacy and black contribution would be great. Remembering all the historiography for all topics might be a problem though.

Anybody doing Georgians and Jacobites? Possibly the most horrific topic in Advanced Higher History. I have not enjoyed anything we've studied apart from the tobacco trade which is what I wrote my dissertation on. P*ssed off at the topic choice and my useless teacher so tbh I'm not bothered about this exam at all, don't need it for my conditions.

I've tried to rewrite my notes, splitting them up into essays. I've realised that all the classwork I have done has been pretty much pointless - doing questions as if it was standard grade - not notes!

I am now starting to feel the pressure  and I'm going to spend the next 12 hours cramming! Wahhh! I just hope the rest of Scotland's in the same boat!

Re: Advanced Higher History 2012 Thread.
I did my dissertation on the fall of the second party system so a question on blundering politicians/nativism/sectionalism causing the fall of the second party system would be a gift. Also a question on why the North won/South lost or something on ineffective Northern generals in the first part of the war. I have detailed summaries of why Antietam and Gettysburg were so important so that would be good as well. The five men I could write an essay on are Lincoln, Grant, Lee, Douglas and McClellan potentially. I know it's bad to second guess the exam but I doubt slavery will appear in the essay questions because if it did then it would be probably on economical profitability which I'm not very good at. I'll have to the change in warfare, black soldiers and Southern economy as I'm paranoid that will be the source based questions. Just hoping for a past really!

So how did the exam go???
I did for the house divided:
Essay 1: slavery causing sectionalism and differences.
Essay 3: why the claim that at the start of the war union victory was the most likely outcome.

For the source questions I though q1 is good, q3 was excellent but q2 was rubbish! So maybe a B hopefully

Given that I spent most of that exam waffling on, it would have been just as good for me to sit there and spent 3 hours drawing a packet of waffles, hahah.... I'm screwed

I though that the essays were worded quite weirdly and it took me a little bit longer to pick my two than I usually do. I did the one on Lincoln which I found relatively easy and then one on slavery causing sectionalism. Also, I found question one to be a little bit hard but straightforward, question two and three were both quite good as I had studied both quite recently. How did you do 3? I thought that looked very difficult!

For essay 3 I basically just said why the north won/south lost but made it relevant to the first year of the war, like I spoke about the north being superior economically and politically etc and the weak southern economy. I forgot what else I wrote about but I think I did alright for it and yeah the wording was tricky, especially for essay #1!

I hadn't studied source Q2 so probably got no recall for that :P

Aww, I actually thought it was the hardest one in the exam but you seem to have planned it really well! Yeah, one word in question 1 was especially strange but I think I was able to have a coherent essay that would at least pass. Here's hoping anyway !
