Is it possible to defer entry if you have an offer for this year?
I have an offer from Imperial for Geology (AAA) but I having doubts as to whether it's the right course for me or not. Would I be able to defer my entry so that I can have a gap year to make the right decision or would that not be possible.
Or I'm thinking of just accepting my offer, and if I feel that it's not the right course I can for something else in September (I know this is not recommended but I know people who have done this before).

What are your doubts? Im not too sure Imperial like deferred entries, its quite rare for it to happen as you are more likely to forget what you have learnt at A level etc...

I got a place deferred but I checked the UCAS box as deferred when I applied. You do forget - alot! I realised helping my sister revise for her A Levels that I've forgotten a scary amount of maths, I dread to think about how little physics I remember.

You've worked so hard to get the place I'd say go for it anyway - you might love it and if you don't then change after your first year.

edit: I think they prefer for you to be doing something productive with a gap year - i.e. working in Industry.

Just the range of careers available, I don't really want to be travelling all the time to far flung corners of the earth where there are no people . I know there are many sectors that you can go into but I would want a fairy good paying job too. Also, not having done Geology A Level I don't know if i'll actually enjoy the subject. Plus i've heard and talked to a few people about Imperial as a uni and it may be good academically but its not that great socially. There is also the fact that I will be paying about £8000 a year for accommodation, which will leave me little money for food and other things.

I know naff all about geology so I can't help you there but travelling to far flung corners of the Earth sounds pretty good to me, thinking I may have made the wrong decision with aero xD

The social life will be what you make of it. Chances are the quieter people who live in the library doing work all the time or hide in their room away from people would do exactly the same at any other university. You'll be able to find like-minded people with a work hard party hard attitude. £8k? Which halls are you looking at?

When I read that Imperial does not have a good social life, I was thinking to firm for UCL, then I realized that I am in London, that I am a sociable person, and that "my social life will be what I make of it". I am pretty sure that I will have a good social life.. no matter what other people say..
