Re: Higher Human Biology 2012 : How did it go ?
I wrote my answers on the piece of paper we got for working

    Ahh. Okay.

I don't know if i just got a brain freeze, but in the multiple choice questions there was one about the production of sperm over a certain amount of time. It was supposed to be easy where you just read off the graph but i just couldn't see how it was any of the four answers given.. i think i put 75.5 down though in the end.

That's the same as me! The picture of the heart totally threw me, was expecting to see arteries and other valves! I put tricuspid too and now realise it should have been bi - grr! I also went for same essay questions as most, neurotransmitters and temperature. Didn't write anything about sympatheic/para in it though.

Yeah, so you put all four then? ..

    I did.

    Eyes- eye contact, winking etc
Hands - waving, thumbs up, clenching a fist etc
tongue - sticking tongue out is cheeky and licking lips in .. i don't know.. seductive? hhaha
and the other one for frowning

Ahh, well one right. The other 129 i'm not so sure about

Thanks claire, could you though? Maybe something likethe parasympathetic increases bloodflow to skin and sympathetic to heart?
im not sure but really i dont think so..you might even lose your coherence mark..but im not sure. you could have wrote about the bodys metabolic rate and how it can also change to generate more or less heat < which i forgot to do..

For the temperature one i wrote about vasodilation and vasoconstriction, contraction and relaxation of hair erector muscles and a short paragraph on shivering

Ah I forgot about shivering but wrote about babies and elderly and how they can't control their mechanisms leading to hypothermia :/ not sure if it was relevant though!

I wrote about hypothermia too, but I'm not sure if I actually linked it to the fact that it can be cause by the lack of involuntary response, so I reckon I'll have lost my coherence mark.

What did you guys put for the wonky gene? Like, how it was altered? My mind went totally blank, and I couldn't think what a gene actually was :/ haha

And for the mcq, where you had to calculate the size of the membrane, and the other calculation for the sperm count? I was sat there for about 10 minutes counting up the boxes getting absolutely nowhere

I put it could be caused by an inversion but not sure if that's right?

i wrote for part a) of the altered gene question - an inborn error of metabolism - obviously wrong.
and for like the part b) wrote something about inversion, insertion and deletion.
why am i so bad at biology..hahaha

I can only remember one in particular about what kind of learning occurs when behaviour follows certain steps? I think it was the boy's development of walking. I thought it was shaping but that had already come up in the multiple choice
    it is maturation

It wasn't why couldn't he walk, it was why didn't the younger boy start walking at the same age his elder brother had, and that was due to enviromental factors and different genetic inheritence
