Re: Mechanics M1 May 24th 2012 AQAAhh I'm doing AS... I'm doing Maths, F.Maths, Physics, Business and G.Studies... might even take a language up next year!! I'm not planning to drop any subjects when I go into A2 though and yeah doing 5 in A2 is obviously more than the standard required but to be fair, my sister took 7 AS's and 6 A2's ahaha(Original post by Xenite)
Ha, lucky you
Are you doing AS or A2?
Mine are all A2, bar one AS Citizenship exam. So I'm taking 5 A2s and one AS. can't help but think I've set myself too much, lol..
Ah well, half of my exams are fairly easy, I'm dreading my Further Maths ones though, ha...
What other subjects do you do? How did you do in your first year of F.maths? My Fp1 exam went terrible!! I was ill on the day.

Re: Mechanics M1 May 24th 2012 AQAExactly my thought :P hopefully we will get it together for the exam lool.(Original post by poyyo)
Not really feeling good about this :/
P.s. Positive thinking will help!!! So tell yourself that you will be fine and you will be okay

Re: Mechanics M1 May 24th 2012 AQAuse s=ut+1/2at^2 as sy=0 when the ball lands, use that to find the time. put the time into sx=ut to find the position, and use the initial speed to work out the vy it will come in at.(Original post by ZTSR)
Been revising Projectiles, and doing mixed exercise questions along with past papers. Then I came across this :/ Looks so easy, yet my mind isn't working
.
A golf ball is hit from ground level so that its initial velocity is (20i+30j)ms^-1 and its acceleration is -10j ms^-2, where i and j are horizontal and vertical units. Assume that the initial position of the ball is 0i+0j.
a) Find the time the ball is in the air. Position of the ball it hits the ground, and its speed at this time.
b) Find the time for which the height of the ball is greater than 25m,
Any help would be great, don't need the answers just on how to work this out :/ been trying constant acceleration equations but I can get round it. Thanks
for part 2, use sy=25 and put into s=ut+1/2at^2 to get a quadratic for the time, then from the two times use the biggest and take away the smallest

Re: AQA MM1B(24/05/2012) official thread:)just average 90+ in c3 and c4(Original post by nmudz_009)
Thanks alot!
Btw Do you need to get 90ums or more in m1 as well as in pure core 3 and 4 to get an A* for maths, or is just 90+ in pure maths? I'm doing mechanics as my A2 applied maths module.

Re: Mechanics M1 May 24th 2012 AQAdunno what you are talking about but if you are confused with formulae just write it down on your calculator!(Original post by A.timer)
hey, stupid to ask this just before the exam, but could someone kindly remind me of the vector euqations??
I think one of them was r=r0 +vt or something...
Please, since this is the only stuff i'm stuck on!!!
Goodluck exam starts at about 2hrs

I do Maths, Further Maths, English Language, Graphics (Product Design) and Citizenship Studies. The AS I'm doing is also CitStud, as our college only makes us do the AS (over 2 years), but I chose to do the A2 as well, ha..
First year of F Maths was... challenging. I struggled a bit overall last year compared to what I did at GCSE, but ended up coming out with an A, after they moved my modules around. I sat an S1 exam, FP1 and D2, expecting those to be my AS modules for FM, instead it's been changed to D1, D2 and FP1, 'cos I got a low B in Stats... FP1 I can't really remember much (which is irritating, as that sometimes comes up on the A2 exams...), but I think I got a high B in that, somehow... ^_^ -
Re: Mechanics M1 May 24th 2012 AQA
I have made an Unofficial Markscheme. Not claiming the answers to be right, simply what I got.

Re: Mechanics M1 May 24th 2012 AQAI thought it was a pretty nice paper, the last part of that vector question I didn't get though. Find the velocity when the particle is travelling SE. Those questions always throw me.(Original post by jph12)
How did everyone find it? I thought it was alright, however, the vector question (seven, I think), threw me. -
Re: Mechanics M1 May 24th 2012 AQA
i didn like question 7 (the vector one) but i thought the paper was reasonable?? definately easier than i was expecting.
what did you guys put for the question asking to make two assumptions about the connected particles question?? i put the string is light and doesnt stretch but someone told me those were already stated in the question (if anyone remembers can you tell me if they were or not>??) -
Re: Mechanics M1 May 24th 2012 AQAI said the string is taut and the peg is light.(Original post by poyyo)

Talked about no air resistance and that the string doesn't bend (basically) taut though the Qs did say in extensible which is the same O:-)(Original post by tom472)
I said the string is taut and the peg is light.
