Re: Aqa English Literature Spec B Gothic Genre Or Pastoral ExamI don't think I'd enjoy writing about Carter in that sense.(Original post by haaaza23)
"If a text is to be labelled as Gothic, it must have a key Gothic villain"
I wouldn't say that's restrictive at all.
But there would be three options I suppose. -
Re: Aqa English Literature Spec B Gothic Genre Or Pastoral ExamQuestions from Jan (I think):(Original post by tinytinygirl)

Far from being supernatural satan is the most human of characters. In light of this comment. Consider Miltons presentation of Satan

Re: Aqa English Literature Spec B Gothic Genre Or Pastoral Exam2010 Section B Questions:(Original post by tinytinygirl)
Does anyone have the questions from January?
To what extent do you think gothic literature is characterised by a fascination with death?
"Gothic settings are desolate, alienating and full of menace"
In light of this comment consider some of the ways in which writers use settings in the gothic texts you have read.
Consider the view that gothic writing often explores the powerlessness of humanity when faced with the power of the supernatural. -
Re: Aqa English Literature Spec B Gothic Genre Or Pastoral Exam
I do hope setting comes up again next week. Probably unlikely though. Of course, with three questions each sitting they'll soon be rewording questions I feel.
Hopefully we'll get something on the supernatural, or something similar to the crossing social/moral boundaries. Or maybe fear/dread or horror. But no doubt it'll be something like 'overblown and melodramatic language', and women. I'd die a little inside.
For Faustus I'm hoping for occult/supernatural. -
Re: Aqa English Literature Spec B Gothic Genre Or Pastoral ExamI can't find them online, but I have the paper in front of me. Which are you studying for Section A? I can write them out for you.(Original post by closetotheedge)
Hey fellow eng-lit students, can you tell me please where you found the questions for the january paper? was it justfrom memory or are they online somewhere? also - do people know the pastoral questions? Thanks a lot much appriciated
Section B
Do you agree that pastoral writing explores the benefits of living in the country as opposed to the town?
To what extent do you think writers in the pastoral tradition present their readers with perfect but mythical worlds?
"Pastoral writing shows that a rural way of life is the best way of avoiding moral corruption."
How far does your reading of pastoral writing support this view? -

Re: Aqa English Literature Spec B Gothic Genre Or Pastoral Exam
There's a textbook? :O I didn't know this, bit too late for me now. What topics does it cover for the gothic, other than women? Because if it's endorsed by AQA, you would think the text book topics will be relevant to the topics in the exam?
-
Re: Aqa English Literature Spec B Gothic Genre Or Pastoral ExamI think it could perhaps come up for a part A question; I'm not sure whether it's an applicable element to all the other texts though :/(Original post by closetotheedge)
does anyone think women in gothic will come up? its a section in the text book but hasnt appeared in the spec question or in january? Lots to talk about (except for the Pardoner's Tale?) Is anyone doing pastoral? -

Re: Aqa English Literature Spec B Gothic Genre Or Pastoral ExamYes you can(Original post by 257532)
I actually really like elements of the Pastoral! Also, this is a really stupid question but you know how you have to write about 3 texts in part B - this can include the text you wrote about in part A can't it? I hope so as we've only done 3 texts but I just remember the as exam was like that!
We've only learnt three too. However we've been told you can't repeat points from section A in section B, which i think is common sense anyway.
