Re: The "I'm scared I'm going to miss my offer" threadMy firm is Aston University for a Language course (German). If I don't get in there then I will probably enter clearing, yes.(Original post by YB101)

Re: The "I'm scared I'm going to miss my offer" thread
My firm offer is Economics and International Economics at Nottingham (AAA), and my insurance is Economics with Finance at Queens (ABB/BBBb).
I have written on this forum before (may/June) regarding the fact that I feel like I may slightly miss out on firm offer (I was worrying my butt off). I haven't really worried or thought about uni for a month, but now that results day is approaching, its time for me to plan the different routes I can take.
First off, I really do not want to go to my Insurance choice. If I do not get into my firm, I'd like to take a year out and resit required exams (will defo be able to get that AAA or higher next time round) and apply again for uni.
Can someone advise me how I would go about declining my insurance choice. Even if I did end up going to my insurance, I'm sure it would be difficult to find accommodation.
Also if on results day I did not make the firm offer and slightly missed it, how would I go about negotiating with the university? ( I have contacted them before and they said they can be flexible depending on places available). If it says unsuccessful, is this a final decision? I've heard unis get results 2 days before us, therefore would all the decisions have been made for those who slightly missed their offers?Last edited by dsinghdahiya257; 23-07-2012 at 21:02. -
Re: The "I'm scared I'm going to miss my offer" threadI believe that their will either be more clearing spaces or many people with missed offers will be accepted.(Original post by toulaa11)
I know i failed
doomed
is there a chance that there will be more clearing places available ?

I can see the future
but seriously, with the drop in applicants I don't think it will be too hard to find a decent space.
tbh I'm completely freaking out myself -.- -
Re: The "I'm scared I'm going to miss my offer" threadHow can you be so sure? I mean, I love your optimism, and I'm rooting for you to really be able to see the future because I'm **** scared about where I'm going to end up, but what makes you so confident about the placement thing?? :3(Original post by YB101)

Re: The "I'm scared I'm going to miss my offer" threadWell, it kind of makes sense doesn't it. For example, last year I posted a discussion and spoke to my teachers and students asking if applications would go down this year. I thought it would significantly due to the increase in tuition whilst everyone else said no. Applications did in fact go down by 10%!!! With less applications, there should be applications per space (generally) apart from the more competitive courses at the most applied to universities :/ I do believe their will be more clearing spaces and only a slight feeling that those who have JUST missed an offer AAB instead of AAA would be able to get because the unis want monies(Original post by AnonCoconut)

I'm trying to calm my nerves by making a list of alternatives and such, the last thing I want to do is resit the year! Can I ask what course and subject you are doing ?x -

Seconded!(Original post by JakeE10)
Why isn't there a ''I know I've already missed my offer'' thread?

Re: The "I'm scared I'm going to miss my offer" threadThat's such a general question that there really isn't any way to answer it properly. It depends on the uni, the course, how close other people were, how the numbers look when the admissions tutor is trying to work out who to take, etc, and all manner of factors we can't know and even the unis can't know until a few days before results day when they get sent the A level results.(Original post by canthardlywait)
How do lenient do you think universities will be on applicants who have missed their offer this year? -
Re: The "I'm scared I'm going to miss my offer" threadSorry, you're right it was a silly and ambiguous question. What I meant to kind of ask was: will there be a reduced chance of universities being lenient this year. I ask because I was reading an article on the Guardian before in which they were talking about Universities being fined due to letting in too many students and also Universities not having a cap on the number of AAB students.(Original post by Potally_Tissed)

Re: The "I'm scared I'm going to miss my offer" threadIt's hard to say at this stage because of the changed situation with the whole AAB+ thing and no one really knowing for sure how it's going to affect things. I don't think you're really going to notice it being any less lenient than previous years (though bear in mind that if you do miss your offer, more likely than not the uni won't take you - that's always been the case). If you get AAB or higher then the new rules mean you're probably in a better position than you would have been in previous years because universities won't get penalised for taking you. If you get ABB or lower then really the situation hasn't changed - as far as you're concerned, the university has a limit on how many people they can take, they don't have to take you, so there's every chance they won't.(Original post by canthardlywait)

I wouldn't get too hung up on the new rules with people getting AAB+ being uncapped because it's not going to make things harder for you, but don't count on universities being lenient because it's highly unlikely that you'll still get your place if you miss your offer. -
Re: The "I'm scared I'm going to miss my offer" threadThat does make sense, actually, and a lot of it.(Original post by YB101)

Here's hoping you're right!! <3
Meanwhile, I'm Malaysian, actually, and I'm holding conditional offers from King's College London and University of Bristol to read Law.
My stomache has been in knots since exams ended. D; I've wanted this since I was a child (the reading Law in the UK part, not so much the stomache being in knots constantly bit) and the wait is absolutely KILLING me. KILL.ING.ME.
Hope you're coping a lot better, though. Can I ask you the same question?
Course and subject? Oh, and where are you hoping to get into??
-
Anyone else not achieve their conditional offer?
My higher results will be coming back in a few weeks and i'm really starting to panic about my conditional grades. I applied for Scottish Agricultural College and got only a conditional offer from them, the other 2 courses that i applied to at Napier i didn't get into. My conditional offer was fairly doable and easy tbh- 2 CCs one of which is needed in biology. I'm actually okay at biology and actually did work hard and study however when it came to the exam my head just wasn't in it, and i completely screwed it up. I know i've failed, i'm lucky to have even gotten a D I think. I hate the thought of opening up my results and seeing that n/a and the unsuccessful on my UCAS especially since the offer was very doable. I'm fairly confident for my other 2 subjects but biology I'm just totally depressed over. I know i've not got in because i didn't meet my condition and it's getting me down because all my friends are going because most of unconditional offers.
I guess i'm just looking for someone to tell me this isn't the end of the world, even though it feels like it right now and i've not even got the results yet!Last edited by kelsief; 25-07-2012 at 14:30. -
Re: The "I'm scared I'm going to miss my offer" threadYou can contact universities about Clearing places, but it's unlikely they will know if courses are in Clearing at this stage. You're best plan right now would be to research unis and courses you would be interested in if they appear in Clearing, giving yourself a shortlist of possible courses to work from once the A level results are out.(Original post by 526540828)
I got 37 points for IB. miss my firm and insurance. what can i do before A Level result? -
Re: The "I'm scared I'm going to miss my offer" threadthanks. I rejected by UCL. is it possible that they accept me in clearing? does Bath offer chemical engineering through clearing??? I hope this year is less competitive.(Original post by Potally_Tissed)

Re: The "I'm scared I'm going to miss my offer" threadTheoretically possible, but extremely unlikely. "UCL will not have any programmes in Clearing and will not have any vacancies available through Adjustment. If you have not secured a university place, you might wish to use Clearing to find an alternative programme elsewhere." http://www.ucl.ac.uk/transition/join...raduate/offers(Original post by 526540828)

No idea. Even Bath probably don't know at this stage.does Bath offer chemical engineering through clearing??? I hope this year is less competitive.
