Which university?!
University course discussion for Accounting and Finance.

Which university?!
I am currently studying for AS levels, applying for university in September.
I am drawn to LSE to study Accounting and Finance, or Management. I will get AAA in Mathematics, Biology, and Economics at A2.
I am also considering other universities including Durham and Bath.
I'm motivated by money and look towards the future (too much some may argue!). I'm not sure whether I'm choosing LSE purely because it stands me in good stead for the future! The course at Bath sounds interesting (including year abroad and sandwich placement) but I feel LSE is considered more prestigious.
Something like accounting interests me, but I am unsure whether it is worth doing a degree in accounting for a career, or whether it's better to work my way up doing a school leavers programme at a firm such as KPMG or Ernst and Young.
London appeals to me at the moment, but not sure whether it would be a lonely existence. I may well prefer a campus lifestyle, but then I suppose you won't know until you're there, and by then it's too late!
Which degree do you think would be best suited? And which university? Or do you think this is the wrong route to go down?
Thank you -
Re: Which university?!They are all prestigious, you will not be at too much of a disadvantage if you choose one other than LSE, as they all have virtually little difference in terms of respect both nationally and internationally. Go to their open days and see which one you like more, as long as you get the grades you will be fine and will get a good job regardless of which one you went.(Original post by studenthelp1)

Re: Which university?!Hi, I've done exactly what you're planning to do, i'm finishing off my A2 exams atm, and my firm is LSE for Economics and Bath for Accounting and Finance. I've also applied for the KPMG school leavers programme which i had my final interview for 3days ago so should know the outcome by 6th of June.(Original post by studenthelp1)

Now if i get the school leavers programme, i'd take it and decline LSE. Although LSE is a prestigious uni, i've weighed out pros and cons, with KPMG, you'd have no debt + walk out with 200k + bonuses at the end of the 6yr course as well as have work experience in a Big4 accounting company with all your qualifications paid for. If you decide to go the uni route, you'd be in 50k debt, however the plus is that if you get into LSE, you're most likely to be scouted for investment banks etc...
If you do take the uni route, Currently LSE tipped over bath in accounting and finance, however personally i think Bath's course is better in regards to the 1yr placement for work experience, however LSE is more likely to get you know as it's well regarded and will push you in that respect.
I'd say apply for KPMG aswell, and for the unis, and when the time comes, make your decision as to what you wish to do! You'd rather apply and not regret it and not apply and regret it!
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask
Hope this helps

Hey, I am currently studying Intensive A levels in Maths, Economics and Psychology. I had applied to LSE for Economics (A* A A ); York, Surrey and Exeter for Economics and Finance (AAB) and University of Bath for Accounting and Finance (AAA)...
Unfortunately LSE has rejected me, however i have all of the other offers in hand. I am just confused about which University to choose for my degree course and what to do. Which ones are better education wise? Which ones are better nightlife wise? It would be appreciated if someone could please help me
Many thanks in Advance! -
Re: Which university?!The latter quoted post was written in March, whereas my reply was only around a month ago. Within this time i had appealed my rejection as it was due to mitigating circumstances. I did intensive A levels this year, and had to submit my results to LSE within a given period of time so they could judge my application as i had no grades to hand in before that. As the process was delayed by a day, i recieved a rejection, however after appealing and resubmitting my results the rejection was withdrawn..(Original post by funkydee)
damn where you that desperate to dissuade the OP
I have no reason to dissuade the op nor lie about things like this. I was just merely trying to help out and give advice on what might be beneficial. That too, the op had contacted me via pm due to my post on this thread, so please; next time don't go making assumptions that quickly. Thanks! -

Warwick is the better alternative to LSE for accounting and finance. Some would even say, it is slightly better uni for that program, though Bath wouldn't be a bad choice.

Even though WBS is a very strong brand, LSE's overall reputation is better than Warwick's. I'd go for LSE in terms of prestige and reputation, especially if you want to work in Asia.
This is actually coming from a Warwick Business School student, but sometimes one has to face the truth I guess :/
