It seems some people would rather damage their body with antibiotics than try eating healthily for a good period of time... :s They might be surprised at the results. In the unlikely case that it doesn't help, at least they can say they tried it.

    Hello hello,
I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on acne treatments? I've had my acne since I was 10 years old and I'm 20 now, I'm fed up with the damn stuff on my face XD

    So far I have tried:
Duac + tetralysal (only got this combination a week ago)
    Erythromycin tablets + solution
    Dianette
    Microgynon
    Panoxyl aquagel (benzoyl peroxide 10%)

I must say this before anyone mentions it, I do have a healthy diet. I drink at least 9 glasses of water a day, eat healthy foods and I make sure I have a very low intake of any sugars, oil and 'fatty' foods which I've been doing for the last 8 years of my life -.-

I just want to know if anyone has any suggestions that would help ease my acne?
I'm going to see if I can see a dermatologist when I go to university in September if it doesn't improve within these next 4 months but I just want a day where I can just look at my face without thinking how ugly it is with the amount of crap on my face XD
I'm 17 and had quite bad acne, and i tried changing my diet but that didnt help, and during exams i was eating excesive amounts of chocolate so i thought it was that, then i went to see the doctor and he gave me some tetralysal, im still on them and havent had a new spot appear since the third day of taking the tablets, also tried benzoly peroxide stuff (however you spell it) and that worked for a couple of months but stopped working eventually also sudocreme- but put an old towel over your pillow

Did you really? How long for? And do you really know what eating healthily is? Some people think they know what to eat but really they don't. Have to research it for a while beforehand. Sorry that it didn't help, if you genuinely tried it.

I went 3 or 4 months where i had a good diet, always 5 fruit and veg a day, and always trying to limit the amount of fat i ate etc im not a nutritionist but i would say i was eating a fairly healthy diet, i think acne is caused by different things, for some people perhaps its diet, for others its hormones when they are growing...

Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but when I was about 13 I was prescribed oxytetracycline, which helped massively after about 2-3 months (they took ages to kick in). Four antibiotics a day, two in the morning and two at night.

I take minocycline, which is another antibiotic, and unfortunately no matter what I eat or do, if I stop those tablets for a couple of days I get a terrible outbreak, but my skin is beautiful when I do take them, so I'll be stuck with them for a while I think :/

Not going to read 3 pages of posts, and i've not seen the state of your acne - but I can share my experience :yy:

I had quite bad acne through my teens, and had tried topical creams, antibiotic creams and erythromycin. decided around 9 months ago to drop milk from my diet and coupled it with washing my face more often - since doing this my skin has cleared up quite nicely so that's my suggestion, there's been evidence of milk exacerbating acne, so maybe try dropping it from your diet for a while and look at the effects.

A positive state of mind, PLENTY of water, lots of fruits and veg, less fatty foods etc also before bed every night, damp a cotton pad with lemon juice and spread it round your face (stinging is normal). Acne has to be treated from the inside more from the outside, its imperative that you have a good diet with lots of water.
Also, avoid touching your face with your hands,
    change your pillow covers regularly
Use a mild cleanser, i use tea tree foaming facial wash, i swear by it, its awesome!

Hi, I just noticed this thread while researching cheap car insurance for my daughter and wanted to add a little story about using Doxycycline. This is a commonly prescribed drug for moderate acne. It is also often used as a malaria preventative and other infections. My daughter started taking Doxy in November and quickly developed quite serious psychological problems which required intervention from the local mental health team. Thankfully, she is recovering well. The connection with the drug is difficult to prove categorically, but anecdotal evidence we have from other parents seem to indicate a worrying connection between the two. I suspect that it may exaggerate existing mental health stresses which are very common in teenagers. I am not saying don't take this drug for your acne, I am saying if you do and experience any odd or intrusive thoughts, emotions or feelings, speak to someone about it sooner rather than later. BTW, when I had it, I found avoiding harsh soaps helped a lot.

I was on Dianette and tetralysal, and my doctor took me off both and put me on Yasmin. It is the best i've used so far! My acne is basically gone, and i've had it since i was 11ish (19 now). Just worried that as soon as I come off it, it'll come back

I'm currently on Roaccutane (3rd day) and I've heard so many good reports about it working(got subscribed to it after nothing else worked, countless creams antibiotics etc) , but i'd suggest re-searching it before, because the drug has some side effects (pregnant woman can't take the drug because it will deform your baby, or even kill it)

I have no idea if you're a guy or a girl, but the thing that worked best for me was not wearing make up.
I used to wear make up everyday because I was insecure but when I was will, I stopped wearing it as I didn't go anywhere and now my skin has never looked better!

    It almost certainly will.

The antiobiotics do not cure the causes of acne, namely excess sebum production. Instead they correct a symptom which is bacteria multiplying really fast.

Assuming you are still producing too much sebum, you are going to get acne when you stop because there will be nothing to kill the bacteria, they will start to grow in the oily conditions of excess sebum, the body will fight back with inflammation, and you will get red spots.

Spots are actually your bodies natural defence mechanism, ironic isnt it

When I first started getting spots around 15/16 years old (I was one of the unlucky ones who got it later in life) I used Quinoderm it's an antibacterial facewash and my acne cleared up quickly. Then I stopped because I thought my skin has cleared now.
Then I got bad skin again from using other skin care products and my skin became worse.
I've tried every thing from clearsil to lemon juice.
Then I started testing products that worked for my skin that other people have mentioned on acne forums.
Then I just went back to Quinoderm and my skin is getting clearer again. But I am using supplements as well but that's more for my hair than my skin.

The ones that worked for me.
Microdermabrasion - A good one is expensive it's like a facial sander. But St Ives do a cream one which is cheap. It's like a strong exfoliation which is meant to help remove the outer layer of the dead skin cells.
Roacctane - (don't know how to spell it) at first it dried my skin and I got more spots but I heard from other users that your skin has to get worse before it gets better. I noticed it's cleared up the dark parts of my skin and made them lighter.
St Ives Apricot Scrub - Reduced pores and help keep my skin smooth and reduce spot size.
Quinoderm - Dries my face even more than roaccutane but faster results the a few scars peel off your skin really easy when you finished washing and drying your face.
Pure Apple Cider Vinegar the brown looking one helps lighten the scars. Better if you mix it with Honey and Lemon to create a mask but it can get sticky so if your not going anywhere it's better.

I'm really impatient if I don't see results within a few days I always give up but I now stick to creams for at least a couple of weeks to see results. It needs to get worse before it gets better.

But these are things that work for me and not everyone's skin type is the same (mine is oily sometimes dry depends on the weather) So you might just have to try different things to find out what works for you, I know it can get pricey but it will be worth it at the end. :
