atomic absorption spec(troscopy) / spectrometry or mass spec(trometry) / spectroscopy
accept spectroscopy / spectrometry alone allow AAS / MS -

Re: CHY3H Unofficial Mark Scheme June 2012Just to point out the student was wrong because in Test 1 HCl was added to the mixture. Regardless of the fact there could have been chloride ions in before the experiment you stil can't draw a conclusion because you have added chloride ions in Test 1 so the answer to the question is No.(Original post by michelfish)
There is also no evidence that there were either, so the student can't conclude that there are chloride ions in the egg -

Re: CHY3H Unofficial Mark Scheme June 20125iii) was incorrect, you use nitric acid as a chloride ion test because hydrochloric acid will provide Cl- ions which then react with silver nitrate to form the white precipitate, making it impossible to determine if there were chloride ions in the original sample.
