maths a level, grade taken more from core units than statistics.. ?
hi im doing OCR maths A2 this year

    i was just wondering, i got an A in C1 and C2 and a B in s1.

am i right in thinking the grades for an A are taken from the core modules more than statistics? so in A2, if i got an A in c3 and c4 and maybe a C in statistics it would still be possible to get an A overall obviously depending on what the mark is?

It doesn't depends upon modules, you just need 480/600 to get an A.

There is no specific requirement from each module, if you get 480, you get an A.

oh ok thanks, i guess what i meant is, from my grade at AS, i can afford to get hopefully a B in s2

You can get an A if you score the following:
    C1: 85
    C2: 85
    C3: 85
    C4: 85
    S1: 70
    S2: 70

Which means that if you score 340 across the 4 core modules and a boundary line B in the stats modules then you can still get an A.

If you aren't doing well in stats, then why don't you consider taking M1 instead of S2? I think it is easier to score in mechanics then stats because stats is very boring and dull module.

If you tell us exactly what you got (UMS marks) at AS we can tell you what you can aim for/minimum requirement in the A2 modules to get your A.

its an average of all your modules, if you get more than 480 then you get an A.

what board are you on? what sort of stuff do you do? yer 68 is a C. If you repeat your C1 and C2 performances you'll only need 49 in S2 :s

how can your exams be in a week? I do OCR and my C4 and S2 arent until the end of june. Is there anything in particular you're having problems with, maybe I could help?

EDIT: i wasnt saying resit c1/2, what i was saying was that if you do as well as you did in c1/2 in c3/4, then you will only need 49 in s2 for an A.

I always thought that the core modules were just called core modules because those are the specific ones you HAVE to do to get an A-level in maths, I'm not aware of them counting for more than the stats modules.
I did an AS in pure stats (few years ago) which was available because my school specialised in maths. So I did S1b, S2 and S3 and unfortunately I lost interest after christmas because I was pissed off about maths (I couldn't keep up with our crazy teacher so I dropped it after christmas with about 10 other people) I got C, D, U in the exams respectively. Annoying because I was actually naturally really good at it and got 100% in one of the class tests yet I came out of year 12 with an E in it! 1 mark off a D as well. SO annoying. But yeah I must have been good at it to pass it at all considering how often I actually turned up lol if you can get As in C1 and C2 then I wouldn't have thought stats would be particularly hard for you! Is it s2 you're doing?

Presumably an average of 68, if 480 is an A

how can you be good enough at maths to get 100 in c1, but thick enough to need help doing simple addition to work out what you need to meet the A boundary?
