Im going into Games Design and I am going to University next year, but i have heard that a lot of the current video game designers got into the business from game testing, how do i get into this??? I have looked all over the internet, but its mainly scams. Does anyone know how i can actually get a part time job in games testing?
You might struggle to get a part time testing job. Most (with reputable publishers / developers) tend to be full time ("quality assurance" is their fancy word for it) and have high staff turn over. You should check the careers websites of publishers or developers you want to work for and watch for job listings.
If I were you I'd be looking at gaining games experience throughout the duration of my course and then blowing them away at job interviews in my final year. Experience (and connections) rule in the games industry so if you don't have the connections then make up for it with experience. You can get involved in the modding communities of published games and there's even a small chance that the studio may pick you up full time. A friend of mine is currently working for a large software developer after doing exactly this.
Placement year internships are crucial. I know EA and Sony both offer them; probably more I haven't checked. EA like you to have developed a 3D game that you can show them at interview; another friend of mine went this route. Take a look here: https://jobs.ea.com/students/roles/. That site also gives you advice what they look for in applicants if you check the FAQ.
