What do you predict the world will be like in a 100 years?
There are quite a few accounts of people in the 1900s making predictions of what the world would be like in the year 2000. Some astonishingly accurate...
...and some wildly missing the mark...The American will be taller by from one to two inches. His increase of stature will result from better health, due to vast reforms in medicine, sanitation, food and athletics. He will live fifty years instead of thirty-five as at present – for he will reside in the suburbs. The city house will practically be no more. Building in blocks will be illegal. The trip from suburban home to office will require a few minutes only. A penny will pay the fare.
Telephones Around the World. Wireless telephone and telegraph circuits will span the world. A husband in the middle of the Atlantic will be able to converse with his wife sitting in her boudoir in Chicago. We will be able to telephone to China quite as readily as we now talk from New York to Brooklyn. By an automatic signal they will connect with any circuit in their locality without the intervention of a “hello girl”.
Photographs will be telegraphed from any distance. If there be a battle in China a hundred years hence snapshots of its most striking events will be published in the newspapers an hour later. Even to-day photographs are being telegraphed over short distances. Photographs will reproduce all of Nature’s colors.
Man will See Around the World. Persons and things of all kinds will be brought within focus of cameras connected electrically with screens at opposite ends of circuits, thousands of miles at a span. American audiences in their theatres will view upon huge curtains before them the coronations of kings in Europe or the progress of battles in the Orient. The instrument bringing these distant scenes to the very doors of people will be connected with a giant telephone apparatus transmitting each incidental sound in its appropriate place. Thus the guns of a distant battle will be heard to boom when seen to blaze, and thus the lips of a remote actor or singer will be heard to utter words or music when seen to move.
“Locomotion in the air [will be] as common as bicycle riding is now.” — Alfred E. Henschel, New York Herald
Source:Prediction #11: No Mosquitoes nor Flies. Insect screens will be unnecessary. Mosquitoes, house-flies and roaches will have been practically exterminated. Boards of health will have destroyed all mosquito haunts and breeding-grounds, drained all stagnant pools, filled in all swamp-lands, and chemically treated all still-water streams. The extermination of the horse and its stable will reduce the house-fly.
Prediction #16: There will be No C, X or Q in our every-day alphabet. They will be abandoned because unnecessary. Spelling by sound will have been adopted, first by the newspapers. English will be a language of condensed words expressing condensed ideas, and will be more extensively spoken than any other. Russian will rank second.

Any predictions on what the world will look like on a technological, social and political level?
How prominent will religion be? Will there be a greater emphasis on biotechnology/genetic enhancements? Will there be robots in every household capable of doing chores such as cooking and cleaning? Will technology and digital interaction be this prominent (A Day Made of Class) in our everyday lives? What developments will there have been in space exploration? Will we be seeing early stages of terraforming - making other planets inhabitable through our own technology? Could we reach a stage of our minds act as input controllers for external technology? Could we perhaps upload, delete, store and share our own memories?
I find this fascinating. Who knows, someone might find our predictions in 100 years.

Re: What do you predict the world will be like in a 100 years?
Virtual reality and social media will merge with a combination of innovation and technological breakthroughs that will make the virtual world dangerously more appealing than the real one. This will lead to a social epidemic of people withdrawing more and more from reality in order to "plug into" the artificial one they prefer. As a result government will have to establish a department to regulate, monitor and ration people's interface time in order to prevent a complete social breakdown.
Essentially, the online gaming experience will become the next narcotic that must be controlled. -

Re: What do you predict the world will be like in a 100 years?Interesting. Right now the problem is just a fringe of adults and adolescents playing World of Warcraft or something. Just imagine when housewives can plug into and live their favorite romance or accountants can became action heros.(Original post by Ape Gone Insane)
This is actually already happening to some extent in South Korea:
I'm pretty sure this prediction will prove accurate. -
Re: What do you predict the world will be like in a 100 years?I find it odd that they think C is unnecessary despite needing several of them merely to make that very assertion(Original post by Ape Gone Insane)

Re: What do you predict the world will be like in a 100 years?
I think we'll either enter a long technological stagnation as a result of a combination of man-made and natural catastrophe (i.e. paralleling the decline of the Roman Empire and the subsequent regression of European civilization) or we'll inhabit a world so advanced that no-one today would recognize it as human.

As a result of nuclear waste being dumped into forests, small forest critters such as Squirrels, Chipmunks, Deer and Beavers will become Super Radioactive Intelligent beings.
Humans will be enslaved and be forced to be in zoos, where our new mutant animal overlords will enjoy countless hours of entertainment watching us perform measly tricks such as balancing a ball on our noses or catching food with our mouths.
The end is near people. -

Hmmmm.............. in 100 years time who knows but I think the world would have ended by then because of global warming people treating the earth like sh** and if that does not kill us maybe war will there will be a lot of wars in my opinion over natural resources like coal, oil, land etc and by then the human race will probably be dying out BUT there is a way round that if you treat the earth better re-use, reduce, recycle etc walk to places, use public transport, turn light bulbs off just you know don't litter things like that if we all did it then maybe we would live for longer because if we carry on then we will reach the tipping point and then there is no turning back by 2050 most of us will have died out and maybe if won't affect us but it will affect out children's, children and there will be no earth to live on.......
I assuming the person who gave me negative rating don't care about the environment or the earth and probably doesn't even care about saving the earth you know I did give some solutions on how we can save the earth if you don't believe me then go to google and type in 'global warming tipping point' and some of the things you will read will shock you and want to make you save this earth trust me...........................
eg http://www.iol.co.za/scitech/science...oint-1.1264515
this isn't the only website there are loadz of others as well with info....
lol thank you very much for the negative rating I really appreciate it

Re: What do you predict the world will be like in a 100 years?
I think technology and internet will obviously be far more integrated into society to the point of there being cybernetic implants as a common thing
There might even also be regular gene altering and biological improvements like, improving eye sight, muscles, speed / reaction times
I think IQ will drop a few points (the movie 'idiocracy' actually seems like a real problem :P)
Religion will have become a lot less popular, down to like 15% of overall people or something like that and much more ridicule for being religious
China will be global leaders and any language that isnt english or chinese will be less used
Africa will probably be less ****, with lots of expansion into it from other countries like china making it more urbanized
mostly worldwide clean energy usage, especially when global warming starts to become more worrying
government surveillance will be scary high like in minority report with eye scanners everywhere or just facial recognition cameras also a citizen electronic ID system which would be used for absolutely everything, meaning crime rate will be lower I suppose -
Re: What do you predict the world will be like in a 100 years?Things weren't exactly going brilliantly in 1912. Humanity is in a much better position now than it was then in pretty much every respect.(Original post by Aspiringlawstudent)
Completely ****ed, the way things are going.
