    Vauxhall Tigra

    Peugot 206

    Renault Megane

    All cars are diesel convertibles

Vauxhall Tigra because I drove a Vauxhall and find them comfortable to drive.

It's that feeling when you have shoes that fit perfectly.

Not 100% sure but I think it's also most reliable out of the three. Although Renaults have parts more cheaper and more readily available in case something breaks.

Peugots are just not for me.

Lol those choice of cars is like asking would I rather eat a turd with a spoon or with a fork.

Go with what gbduo said, or something like a VW golf

    Hahahaha. Excellent summary.

Personally I'd go with vauxhall over French badges.

    Vauxhall Tigra

    Peugot 206

    Renault Megane

    All cars are diesel convertibles
    None

My family had the 206 Cabrio, it was an absolute pain in the rear end. Problematic is an understatement.

The vauxhall tigra if you had to choose one.

I'd love a convertible car, and would ideally like a diesel as the fuel efficiency is much better.

My price range is ~£3k (£4k for a bargain!) and these are the only cars that come up that I could really afford

What's wrong with them? Or is it just personal preference?

It's just that none of them are particularly appealing. Not brilliantly built, not very well equipped, and with tiny diesel engines, not sporty at all (which is just something I would expect from a convertible. I know not everyone has the same expectations).

If you just want a cheap convertible that is cheap to run, you have free choice really. They're all bottom-of-the-class and none of them have redeeming features. Go out and test drive them, and see which you like most.

Yeh, but you could get a MX-5 with the tiny 1.8ltr petrol or whatever it is and that is pretty frugal when you potter about. Unless you are doing over 15k miles (motorway driving) a year, diesel doesn't make a lot of sense now with the higher fuel price, tax and servicing.

You could get something petrol and actually have an engine that sings and a car that has decent handling for £4k. In the used car market now that is a lot of money!

Buy a decent MX-5 for £2k. The £1000 you saved will easily cover repairs and added fuel consumption for the next few years. Plus, the MX-5 won't have lost nearly as much when you come to resell.

Or, you can do the really sensible thing and buy my BMW 328i Sport. It'll even do 30mpg on a run...what more could you want!?

Well unless you're doing a lot of miles (lets say 25k+ per year) they don't work out any cheaper to run than a small engined petrol car. They get better MPG, but pretty much every other cost associated with them is large. Plus you're just begging for a turbo failure buying a small sized diesel with relatively high miles.

They aren't pleasant to drive, smell bad (to the people behind you, at least), are typically noisy (even more so in a convertible). The list goes on.

Basically they have absolutely no advantage over a nice small engined petrol.

Lets flip that on its head, what is good about them!? You have a diesel in a convertiable. Usually you have convertible so you can hear the engine singing through the leafy country lanes. All you are going to get is a oil burner running out of puff.

Vauxhall Tigra; the most reliable of the three I believe.

Vauxhall Tigra - I like Vauxhall. I want a Corsa! Though, I have nothing against the other two. My boyfriend had a Megane and a friend of mine has a 206 so I suppose it's down to personal preference. Test drive them all and see which one you feel most comfortable in

Ok, I guess my main concern with driving is fuel prices.

Why is it that petrol convertibles seem to use more fuel as opposed to their hatchback counterparts? Is it because of their bigger engines?

It is usually because they are heavier cars too.
