    medical school applicants 2013 entry
I thought this might be interesting, vent out the stresses of this moist medical school application - work Experience placements, volunteering, UKCAT, BMAT and of course the big boy grades. Considering all our AS exams are over now, we all are concentrating now on the place next year. For me personally I am not expecting any offers, but I'm sure there are many of you who know they will get a place and need a some other applicants who they can relate to. I might start this off and ask who else thinks how rude/irrelevant/arrogant/wasteofgoverntmentmoney some NHS admin are? useless people, you can't get WORK EXPERIENCE ANYWHERE!

Perhaps I am just a bit lucky but I really don't think it's impossible to get experience in the NHS. Two methods: Ask HR (this will take MONTHS, do not underestimate the bureaucracy involved!), you will eventually get an opportunity. If for whatever reason they are being ****holes and won't arrange anything, contact consultants directly. You will get a LOT of ignored emails or they people telling you they haven't got time, sorry, but if you persist someone will usually give you a chance, even for a day. I got work experience through both methods in Nottingham and Manchester, so it's certainly not impossible.

None of the "oh I got 112 A*s at GCSE's and & 11 A's at as level, am I good enough" please, I hate academic begs. I'm sure NHS admin's role is not primarily to get you work experience, give them a break!
Does your local NHS hospital have a Employability and Placement Team?

You also complained in a different thread about me only doing voluntary work for my application to tick a box, and how it was fake care.
Well today alone, my ''fake care'' has managed to secure me positions in a community and hospice environment.
Good luck with your application, I'm sure you'll need it.

    Initiative, noun:

    1. an introductory act or step; leading action: to take the initiative in making friends.
    2. readiness and ability in initiating action; enterprise: to lack initiative.
    3. one's personal, responsible decision: to act on one's own initiative.

You should try it some time.
