Is saying they form alkaline solutions for group 1 metals okay as a property?

For the mass calculation that was 12g , will you get marks just for the answer, I done it just the last min.

Also for the testing one, I put chloride ions bc it's a white precipitate formed when silver nitrate is added.
Also uhm it wasn't aluminum because it didn't dissolve in excess naoh.

Also for the last page it said it increased temp so I sed it's Exo bc it's bond making and the methane bit I said it's endo thermic needs activation energy?

    Do these look fine?

I personally think that the testing one on chlorine one is no because the white precipitate is formed due to the chlorine in hydrochloric acid but I think you're ok for everything else

Are ISA grade boundaries set or are they dependant on everyone's results?

im not sure on the ammonia one.. i got 2 3/8 or something like that which sounds more plausible than your 12gs lol

I got the same answers as you (: Except I'm not sure about the 12g question, I can't remember what I got for that xD

Any Thoughts on the Chemistry paper?

    My Calculation Answers
    Concentration: 0.61
    Mass: 12g
    Energy Change: -810KJ

    Anyone have any other answers?
Guys for some reason i thought the mass was 36.6g. I just multiplied the concentration by the formula mass. What was the question actually asking for?

You had to find the amount by using amount= conc x volume
Then you found the mass by using mass= amount x mr

    The calculations were 0.8 x 0.25 = 0.2 mol and then 0.2 x 60 = 12g

    Hope this helps

oh thanks. Was the answer supposed to be in grams per dm3 or grams per mole?

Just regular grams as it was asking the mass of the substance

I think it was 3 but I'm not certain

nice, i got those calculations right if the OP is correct

lost two certain marks though, on the properties on transition metals, also my answer to the newlands question was a bit iffy

other than that, feeeeeling good roll on p3 next week

Did you do c2 as well? Because think there was a question on that, and I got that.

I was iffy on the newlands one as well, just put down literally everything I could think of.

    that **** was hard!
well everything was easy but i stuffed up the calculations

except for the energy change haha

Basically, aluminium is amphoteric (dissolves in both acid and alkali) so it should have dissolved when excess NaOH was added but it didn't so there were no aluminium ions.

For chloride ions, it said they added silver nitrate to the solution from experiment 1. Experiment 1 added HCl to the eggshell. As Hcl was added we wouldn't know if the chloride ions (that made the white precipitate) came from the egg or the HCl so I put we cannot be certain if there are chloride ions or not. I think this was either a really tricky question on AQAs part or me looking too deeply at it but my teacher assured me my theory behind the answer was correct

Calculations: 0.61, 12, -810 (will I get it right if I have the symbol in but they say to ignore the = or - ?)

3b) I was really unsure about why transition metals had similar properties. I talked about the D orbital and how it being partially filled allows for coloured compounds as electrons are promoted through energy levels and also how the D orbital allows them to be catalysts. Quite unsure though on this one.

My memory isn't great so I don't remember any other answers unless someone posts all the questions >.>

i got 0.61, but how did you get 12g, lots of people i spoke to got 48g, knowing me i've done it wrong, but i did 0.61 times by the relative formula mass???
    please explain :P

also, what do you think the ums points/grade boundaries will be for this paper?
You don't use 0.61, because at the top of the question it says that it was a different acid with a new concentration of 0.80. You use that concentration to find number of moles and then times that by Mr At least I think that's what I did :P Anyway I ended up with 12g and I'm pretty sure that's right
