    St Andrews Mlitt Management
    Hi all!!

I have recently been made an unconditional offer for an MLitt in Management at St.Andrews. Due a complete lack of other options, I am accepting the offer.

    My questions are as follows-

    1. What kind of reputation does St Andrews have with employers in the UK?
    2. Is a masters in management a waste of time?
    3. Is St andrews well known in USA and Canada?
    4. Is this degree even going to get me somewhere?????

Help from those who know more about this sort of thing is much appreciated.

I think it mostly depends on what you want to do with your degree. I'm from the US, myself, and know that St. Andrews has a solid reputation in the states (perhaps because the prince went there?). I have a friend who is doing an MLitt in International Business at St. Andrews. He went mostly because he felt it was a cost effective way to do a masters program (1 year instead of 2), and the league tables, though they can sometimes be a crock.

Anyway, it would help to know what your career goals are, and a bit about your background.

I may get a masters degree from LSE. I say this because I'm not sure if I'll pass. The degree is in math and finance.

I have an undergrad degree in math and economics.

I want to do a second masters which is less quantitative, and since I don't have a GMAT score places like LBS were out for options.

I keep thinking about Ivy League options like Harvard and find St Andrews disappointing in comparison.

If you're having a difficult time with the maths at LSE, how much easier do you think it will be at institutions such as Harvard? IMO, if you're considering schools in the states, also look into programs outside of the Ivy with strong math or finance departments, like Chicago Booth. Booth is highly regarded and sought after by students looking to go into finance. Good luck!

I am not having a difficult time with the math at LSE I had to give resits because of medical problems.

As I explained earlier, I cannot apply to USA because I don't have a GMAT score.

Anyway, can people here offer opinions on the Mlitt Management course from St Andrews??

I probably am spurning St Andrews' PG offer from the Management school to either take a scholarship from a lower-ranking university or pony up for a course from LSE.

I can't speak for the specific programme, but I'm American and I did my undergraduate degree at St Andrews. I absolutely loved it there and employers here stateside have always been impressed by the fact that I did my degree in Scotland. It is reputable here in the states and in the UK.

I heard that over 10% of students at St Andrews are from America and Canada. It is highly respected over there, just as it is in Britain and especially Scotland.

In terms of university reputation, here is my opinion of the top 10 in the UK: starting from the best.

    Oxford & Cambridge
    Imperial & LSE & UCL
Edinburgh & St Andrews & Durham
Manchester & & KCL or Warwick
