Re: AQA FP2 May 31st 2012
Ditto. Seriously difficult subject in some areas. It seems to be much more dependent on your intelligence and a mathematical mind as opposed to other exams that have you more straightforwardly apply methods you learn. It's a tough one to revise. I would love any good revision material anyone has managed to find too!

Re: AQA FP2 May 31st 2012
I have just finished the jan 12 paper and got 56 ish on that out of 75. However this was one of the hardest papers around, it was 59 for an A*!! Which is what it normally is for an A.
I agree with both of you, this paper requires a good bit of mathematical intuition, Q5 and 8 on this paper are good examples of that, there are like 17 marks worth of things that require you to think in a certain way, it's not hard but if you can't "see" it then you end up getting like 3-4/17.
I am guessing you are all aware of the pdf book ? I plan on revising that soon. Make sure you know your graphs, there is like 2/3 marks in the recent papers for knowing graphs. Tbh as long as you don't make slips then the majority of this paper is okay, it;s just the last questions that require real intuition. -
Re: AQA FP2 May 31st 2012How have you been learning it then? I agree the book has many errors, but it's pretty essential. If there are videos/other guides out there that teach the specification I'd like to see them.(Original post by nebelbon)
The book isn't of much use to me; its so full of errors i dont intend to use it.
The Jan 2012 paper didnt contain any method of differences quesiton did it?
I find roots of equations and most of hyperbolics not too bad. Questions to do with argand diagrams are so-so. Method of differences is usually fine, but proof by induction is really hit or miss - sometimes I notice the correct manipulation and sometimes not. -
Re: AQA FP2 May 31st 2012This was a tough paper, mainly q5 and 8 tbh.(Original post by ebmaj7)
Janurary was hard. Got 74UMS, need an A in it so I'm getting there. Trying hard.
Nobody happens to have that paper do they? -
Re: AQA FP2 May 31st 2012If you aren't using the pdf what are you using lol ? It is filled with mistakes but not too bad tbh.(Original post by nebelbon)

Opp for me, induction is okay but I find the roots at the end of the paper tricky.(Original post by Dangerous Theory)

Re: AQA FP2 May 31st 2012
I would say FP2 will be my hardest exam
. Absolutely solid.
The pdf doesn't help that much, it covers each little bit very briefly and there isn't many practice questions. In the past papers, either you can see what you need to do, or you can't. It's very difficult to 'work your way through.'
I'm just memorising types of past questions and hope they come up
.

Re: AQA FP2 May 31st 2012
I believe I can do quite well on the paper, but it is completely dependant on what the questions are like on the day, sometimes you need to notice little things and if you don't your screwed, the jan 2012 was a very difficult paper, wouldn't surprise me if the next one is harder still!

Re: AQA FP2 May 31st 2012
I can't understand the induction questions with factorials; could anyone help me with this question?
Show that
(r+1)! - (r-1)! = (r^2 + r - 1)(r-1)!
QP June 11 Question 3
The induction bit is sum of (r^2 + r - 1)(r-1)! between 1 and n = (n+2)n! -2
Any help would be much appreciated

Re: AQA FP2 May 31st 2012What is telescoping series ?(Original post by Oromis263)
Looking forward to this one in a way, I really enjoy the topics covered. Planning to knock-out the answers to any PbI or Telescoping series questions off the mark, then move on to whatever is left.
I doubt it could get any harder, it was 59/75 for an A* in Jan !(Original post by 5elsste)

and then take a factor.
For the sum, use the sum of
as that equals [tex} (r^2 + r - 1)(r-1)![/tex] between 1 and n. Try n=1,2,3...(n-1), n until you see a pattern and can confidently cancel out.

Re: AQA FP2 May 31st 2012Have you done all past papers ? What other exams you got ?(Original post by f1mad)
Planning on reviewing the PDF book over the weekend; gotta know it inside-out it seems

Re: AQA FP2 May 31st 2012I've done a couple and done pretty well on 'em. Not willing to take any chances incase they turn up with a bitchy paper.(Original post by member910132)

Other than FP2; C4, D2 and FP3. -
Re: AQA FP2 May 31st 2012To be honest, I think algebra, geometry and calculus in particular, as a whole needs to be, "top notch".(Original post by ebmaj7)
Having sat this once and doing a resit I'd give this advice: Make sure you integration is top notch, and make sure you're familiar with the different forms certain things can take and that you're comfortable with using them. Oh, and your trig identities.
e.g.
and
Oh and;

They like to sneak in a couple of perplexing ones in papers. -
