Shouldn't be any more than a few hours.
Talking won't be much of an issue - mind you don't bite your tongue though! - but eating will likely be sloppy until it wears off.

I find that talking and moving my jaw in general gets rid of the feeling faster, but that might just be me.

I found that moving my jaw a bit helped speed it up, though only by a little. It generally lasts around 3-4 hours on me, assuming he get sit right - my dentist once didn't get the needle in the right place so he had to give me 2 doeses, which ended up lasting me about 6 hours in the end. And as has been said, be super aware of your tongue - I kept almost biting mine whenever I talked to people, a bit of an odd experience all in all, I find.

I don't know if it was just me but after my dentist my face was so numb and I'd had so many painkillers I just fell asleep as soon as I got home for the rest of the day, woke up with my face feeling funny but I slept off the worst of it.

It will last a few hours- just sleep it off.

I had two of my back teeth removed to give room for my braces, so I needed my gums to be numbed. The effects lasted me quite a few hours and I could drink or eat. The food just fell out of my mouth hah!

Hmm...weird. I got a filling last week and after the anesthetic I came home and collapsed on the bed for several hours. Completely out. I thought it was just me that it makes sleepy.

Same! My mum was like, ''Its just an anaesthetic, not laughing gas!" but it seemed to affect me differently, and you too by the looks of things! haha. Happened when I had anaesthetic injected into my toes too.

Up to 4 hours generally, but it's never lasted that long with me.
