Linkin PArk Have Betrayed The Fans That Made Them Famous
Linkin Park was completely unknown until they released epic albums such as Hybrid Theory, Meteora, and Reanimation, gaining a massive Nu Metal Fan following. Now with the release of Minutes to Midnight, Thousand Suns and eventually Living Things (with Burn it Down as a taster). I think they have betrayed their original fans for a more mainstream following. What does anyone else think?

Not really. People change their sound. And of course they want more fans and more success, why shouldn't they? As a fan you should be happy for their success.

And just think now that they're more famous, you can say to all your friends that you knew them before anyone else.

Hybrid Theory was a beast of an album. It all went downhill after that as far as I'm concerned (excluding Reanimation. That was also an excellent album).

I hate whiny annoying stuff like this.

They've not betrayed anybody, they don't owe anybody (or the fans atleast) anything. It's their band, their music. If they want to get a bit of money behind them then what's the problem? If they want to stay with their old sound making the same music with a smaller base of fans then admirable, but stupid, we all know that.

It's their band, their music, they don't owe you anything, if you don't like their music don't invest anything in their band.

I haven't even listened to half the songs in a Thousand Suns, even though I took the time to download, I was just like what is this crap.
But you're right, meteroa and Hybrid theory were the best by far!

Yep, they're not as good as they were in the H.T/Meteora days. Not expecting Living Things to be much better either.

I think that they're just evolving, and I quite liked A Thousand Suns and Minutes to Midnight. And just staying in the same base is a little bit stagnant.

Having said that I think that Hybrid Theory was EPIC!

No-one really does nu metal these days. Even if they did, 6 identical albums would be kinda dull.

I used to like them when I was younger but looking back it's all whiny emo crap and I hate it.

And they owe you nothing, so there is no betrayal, that's not how market economics works. You listened to their previous albums cause you liked to do so, not as a result of an unspoken contract that they would keep on making the same type of music.

If you don't like it, don't listen to it. Leave appreciating their more unique material to people like me.

I'm gutted the The Rasmus don't make stuff like their first three albums any more, but I don't think they've betrayed anybody (that said, they are clearly marketing to a demographic which is definitely not me!)

Not a fan of Linkin Park at all (I did buy Hybrid Theory when it came out but dammit Paper Cut's still a ****ing choon) but I appreciate them at least trying to evolve and not making the same album over and over again.

Just look at Limp Bizkit's return album and "comeback". Literally no one cared.

Except it's fans like us that made them famous, now they are making pop/electro crap giving into mainstream, and it's my opinion so I really don't give a flying **** what you have to say >

they'll lose some old fans, but gain new ones too. i hated them before the release of 'minutes to midnight', but i quite like the sound they're making now.

The track they released recently 'Burn It Down' off the new album that'll come out this year is alright, it's a good mix of old and new but still a bit too techno for me, I prefer the guitars of old. Don't wanna sound like a broken record but Hybrid Theory was so damn good...By Myself is a song and a half!!!

I liked their music at first but soon realised they were a one trick pony. They always sound the same. I feel like I am just listening to the same song over and over. I just wish they would quit making music that sound so identical. It doesnt mean they have to move to a totally different genre but it doesnt have to have the same tune and music set up.

If you like old Linkin Park there is TONS of generic nu metal coming out of the ex-Soviet countries at the moment. EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS.

Relax, it's simply the band deciding to experiment and continue in a new musical direction! It keeps their output fresh and different, making their sound diverse and vibrant. Often, this kind of practice tends to lose an artist's following, but seems to have worked oppositely for Linkin Park, who've become a really big name in the last 5/6 years worldwide.

Not really, plus if they just wanted success/money thats what they would of stuck to, but they didn't want to do that so even though it would lose them fans hence money they decided to do the music they wanted. I didn't like it much at first, but I've learnt that you can learn to love most music in the world if you give it a chance, listen to it a fair few times, I'm sure there are lots of songs you heard at one point and didn't like, then started liking them eventually? You might of been forced into giving it a chance, but you should learn to give it a chance, I really like their new stuff and their old stuff equally.

They were more mainstream back then then they are now, have you even heard a glimpse of mainstream music now? It's nothing like their music.

It is entirely up to a band what music they decide to record and release, just because it isn't what the fans want doesn't mean they've betrayed anyone - they don't owe it to you or the next fan to churn out the same stuff each album.

I do agree that last two albums have been crap though.
