Re: Linkin PArk Have Betrayed The Fans That Made Them Famous
If they released five Hybrid Theorys I'd have stopped listening a long time ago. All the fans who adored Hybrid Theory when it came out will have grown up by now and so will their music tastes - I consider myself one of those people and I like the fact their sound is more interesting and experimental. Angsty angry nu-metal is great when you're 12, but c'mon...

Re: Linkin PArk Have Betrayed The Fans That Made Them FamousAnd that makes you think I'd then care of your opinion why?(Original post by Kryptonater)
Except it's fans like us that made them famous, now they are making pop/electro crap giving into mainstream, and it's my opinion so I really don't give a flying **** what you have to say >

Re: Linkin PArk Have Betrayed The Fans That Made Them Famouswait linkin park have six albums?(Original post by Some random guy)
I used to like them when I was younger but looking back it's all whiny emo crap and I hate it.
And they owe you nothing, so there is no betrayal, that's not how market economics works. You listened to their previous albums cause you liked to do so, not as a result of an unspoken contract that they would keep on making the same type of music.
wow im behind the times.
anyway i could stand reanimation but i really liked meteora and HT -

Re: Linkin PArk Have Betrayed The Fans That Made Them Famous
May be they were nu metal when they were in order to get on the scene then do what they actually wanted afterwards? Some bands can pull off changing direction, some don't. I used to listen to Metallica a lot and if you don't move with the times, your success can be severely limited. Just look at Testament. I thought St Anger was bad though. But then my favourite album of theirs is ...And Justice For All so I'm not a thrash purist as such, otherwise my favourite would be Master of Puppets.

Re: Linkin PArk Have Betrayed The Fans That Made Them Famous
Linkin Park's 5th album Living Things shold hopefully put them back on track. It will combine the best sounds from all 4 previous albums. Burn It Down is way better than the songs in A Thousand Suns! Apparantly their 5th album is going to be amazing and the best one since Hybrid Theory according to some reviewers. There will be some screaming in some songs too. Wouldn't be surprised if 1 or 2 nu metal songs were in there. But I think LP are back on track
It would have got boring had they done the same nu metal over and over as much as I love nu metal myself.

Re: Linkin PArk Have Betrayed The Fans That Made Them FamousTwo things here:(Original post by drummer)
You have to go mainstream to earn a better living, that's why most underground bands have done so.
a) Linkin Park have NEVER been underground.
b) Most is an absurd overstatement. I think it's probably around the 1% mark. -

Two things here:
a) Linkin Park have NEVER been underground.
b) Most is an absurd overstatement. I think it's probably around the 1% mark.
a) I did not say Linkin Park was underground. And no I wasn't implying it either, it was just a prime example of the type of bands that go 'mainstream'. However Linkin Park have strayed from their original genre and like some people have said here, have gone mainstream. One even said they betrayed their fans but I don't agree with that.
b) Like I said, most underground bands have done so. I'm not sure what sort of stuff you listen to but I'm talking about metal bands that have gone mainstream. Add a couple snazzy iPhone cases and pointless re-recorded tracks on a so called new E.P and you have a sellout. But then again there's always genuine bands that do that who know what fans want to hear and that's good songs that they like themselves too. At the end of the day, everyone needs to make a living if they are planning to be touring musicians.
Remember I'm not saying that this is Linkin Park. It's just a response to OP's statement and an explanation to why bands start going mainstream.

Re: Linkin PArk Have Betrayed The Fans That Made Them Famous
Betrayed is a bit harsh. I have the first three albums on CD and tracks from the fourth downloaded from iTunes. I'm not the greatest fan of the new stuff, but some of it is OK. It's like just because I am a MASSIVE lady gaga fan, doesn't mean I'll like all of her music (even though unlike most people I actually prefer her 2nd album to her 1st one). She has great tracks on her 1st album, but I prefer her more uptempo stuff on her 2nd album. I also like most of Rihanna's stuff, but a few of her songs such as 'Te Amo' and 'You Da One' don't really appeal to my taste.

Re: Linkin PArk Have Betrayed The Fans That Made Them Famous
The whole 'Linkin Park have gone mainstream' argument astonishes me. Hybrid Theory holds diamond status in the US and has gone 4x platinum here in the UK... it is LP's most commercially successful album, and one of the best selling albums of all time. Surely this is the most mainstream of them all? Loud guitars and screaming doesn't mean they were 'underground'.
I find it ironic that people claim that A Thousand Suns was too commercial or mainstream when, in reality, it's their least approachable album and didn't sell nearly as well as Hybrid Theory or Meteora did. For the record, I think it's their best work. The way it flows is fantastic - it really is much more of an experience. I think it challenged a lot of people when it came out, but if you give it a chance and listen through then it really comes into it's own.
As for Living Things, it's the perfect mix of all their best work to date, there really is something for everyone in there. I'm already looking forward to their next album - why? Because I have no idea what it'll sound like. I think everyone would have gotten bored by now and they'd have petered out had they not changed their sound. I love Hybrid Theory and Meteora but I don't want more of the same. -

Re: Linkin PArk Have Betrayed The Fans That Made Them FamousOkay. So you think that most (i.e. >50%) of the bands on here are mainstream? Or even out of those that have broken up, you think 50% are mainstream? You must be the biggest metal hipster ever.(Original post by drummer)

With respect to Linkin Park's mainstreamness thing, I guess I misinterpreted your sentence.
