This is silly...but how do you stay cool?
We seem to very rarely get any hot weather over here and, because it's just suddenly gone scorching, I feel like I can't adjust... I get up and try to do something, then I'm flopping down again because the heat just exhausts me within minutes. I've been trying to drink lots, but the only thing that makes me feel cooler is a shower, which I can't have all the time!
I've lived in a cold house since September and have just moved home for the summer...I think it's the drastic change that has thrown me off-kilter a bit... I'm going to put a fan in my room later, but it's so noisy. I have to close the door to my room at night because my father snores like a chainsaw (and you think I'm joking), but I've been leaving the window wide open. My bedroom is the worst offender here, it just seems to be the warmest room in the house!
So...because I rarely have this problem...what does everyone else do to stay cool? Are there some tricks? Please help if you're more used to dealing with this than me. I'm more used to torrential rain!

Re: This is silly...but how do you stay cool?
1. Wear light (so it reflects heat), loose clothing like a white t-shirt. In hotter climates they cover themselves all over with light, loose clothing to protect from the sun, but a t-shirt will probably work here. DO NOT WEAR BLACK.
2. I'm not sure leaving the window open helps if the air outside is warmer than the inside either - try leaving it open during the night and just ajar during the day. Open internal doors instead of a window when you can, to allow circulation (though I read about your Dad).
3. If you have curtains it's worth partially or fully closing them, because I think they may help to slow down the greenhouse effect of a glass window.
4. Tidy your room - it gives you a sense of space and wellbeing, and really genuinely helps.
These things ought to help a bit
Edit: It turns out Bedouin tribes often wear black for some scientific reason (see later
). I doubt it makes a difference in this climate, but loose fitting clothes are definitely important.

.
There are many benefits of living in the fridge one of them being that you can eat all the food you want, the next one being you that when you pee, you see your pee turn into ice b4 it hits the floor and shatters
.
You should join the revolution and move into your fridge!
Viva la revolution!!! -
Re: This is silly...but how do you stay cool?you're actually sposed to eat and drink hot when the weather is hot to help you adjust(Original post by Tycho)
Further to the above: eat cold food; drink plenty of water; wear only underwear in the house.
Hope it helps.
so lots of tea/coffee is good
also if you have long hair keeping it tied up helps
if your just in the house hang out in pants + top n not much else? -

Re: This is silly...but how do you stay cool?
I have a south facing garden and my room's at the back of the house, so it's always light in my room, and recently it's constantly been like an oven. Being naked helps as does having the windows open.
I should really get a light dressing gown as opposed to one that feels like I'm inside a wampa. -
Re: This is silly...but how do you stay cool?
When i try to get to sleep in hot weather i try to stay as still as possible. It can be a bit annoying as you feel warmer at first, but the more you try to adjust your duvet etc move around, the warmer you'll get.
I suppose it also helps you to drift off quicker too.
