Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

Re: Is Disney getting better or worse? (Poll)
I think there are good and not so good films, but I don't think it gets worse. People naturally start to think it's worse because of the nostalgia they have associated with the classics, usually due to that they watched them when they were small etc. But some recent Disney films are still phenomenal, Tangled and Wall-E are total classics IMO.

What, with rubbish like High School Musical, Beverley Hills Chihuhaha and Hannah Montana? (I dont watch them but my sister does; she'll watch anything!!)
I'm sorry but as with everything, the old 'uns are the best, though Alice in Wonderland was pretty good. -
Re: Is Disney getting better or worse? (Poll)Toy Story 3, compared to the first two, was shocking.(Original post by LeaX)
Tangled is actually my favourite Disney film now. But, saying that, apart from Toy Story 3 it's the only decent thing to come out of Disney recently.
If that's the standard of "decent" Disney films these days then they must've gathered all the old school Disney film-makers into a room and shot them. -
Re: Is Disney getting better or worse? (Poll)
I always group Disney films into five periods:
1928 - 1968 is 'classic Disney' with amazing films that started it all with Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan and Jungle Book.
1969 - 1988 is 'bad Disney' with the only good film coming out in this period in my opinion is The Rescuers. These are obviously bad as Walt died in 1966 and the company lost its way.
1989 - 1999 is the 'Disney Renaissance' when Disney went awesome again with films like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King and the debut of Pixar with Toy Story.
2000 - 2008 is 'terrible Disney' as I hated all these films except the Pixar ones [Disney purchased Pixar in 2006] and also hated the TV shows like Hannah Montana etc. This may be because they were bad or just because I was getting older.
2009 - Present is where Disney has become good again with Tangled and Princess and the Frog which are both films that I thoroughly enjoyed. Although future films like Frozen and Wreck it Ralph may not be so good. -

I'm not really a fan of the Walt Disney Company, and I was annoyed when they took over Marvel Comics
But seeing as they distributed my new favourite 'The Avengers' i'd have to say they're kind of upping their game, but that's mostly due to Pixar and Marvel.

Re: Is Disney getting better or worse? (Poll)I disagree with this. Robin Hood, The Fox & the Hound and Oliver & Company are amongst Disney's best IMO.(Original post by Andys2992)

Re: Is Disney getting better or worse? (Poll)
It's not that it's getting worse deliberately, it's just that the golden era of Walt Disney is over. Dumbo, Bambi etc. were 1940s and Disney managed to continue this streak till the 90s with the Lion King. Since then, it's not been the same. Shrek in the 2000s just isn't the same, all of the HD graphics just aren't the same as the colourful hand drawn Disney world... Some of Disney's modern stuff is alright, That's so Raven, Cory in the House, but it's just not the same...

Re: Is Disney getting better or worse? (Poll)
Well, hey. To be fair, Disney is getting better. Now, before you all jump on me; Disney was not doing well in the time frame from 2000-2009 (ish). That's when they produced tons of Disney channel child stars and hardly any quality animation. Actually, I cannot think of one that was really convincing.
Disney was, without question, amazing during the 90s (and also before then), but I feel that Disney's prime time -- their golden age, so to speak -- was from 1989-1999. Afterwards, they sort of crashed a little and only with the help of Pixar, were able to produce films that sort-of redeemed their name.
But I feel that they are improving once again. Disney lost its footing and public approval for a while. Tangled certainly shed some positive light on Disney in my eyes. As well as The Princess and the Frog. I also have rather high hopes for Brave. Maybe they are on the road to recovery? (:Last edited by lothiriel; 04-06-2012 at 22:54. -
