When Can I Apply For A Student Bank Account?
I'm thinking about sorting out my student account, and I'm wondering - when can I apply?

I want to go with Natwest because I have a current account with them already, I like the way they work, they have good overdraft facilities and they have lots of branches.

I've got an Unconditional offer - I have my AS12 letter.

I know that's the proof I'm going to uni, but here are my issues:

Natwest says to get the student account you need to deposit £750 every 6 months. Does that mean I need to deposit £750 pounds when I open the account or can I open it and then it'll be fine when I get my student loan in October? (5 months)

    It also says
Your interest-free overdraft facility is only available after your A-level results, provided you are over 18. Simply pop into your local branch with confirmation of your university place.
I finished my A-Levels last year so already have my results etc and I'm 19.

so does that mean I can open an account now, and have an overdraft and everything?

    Thank you for any help

It's all really confusing, I went into halifax and natwest asking about student accounts, and they told me they usually do them closer to September, usually end of June onwards.

Seems like existing customers can apply online now / New customers from 19th August

P.S I've got a student account now and it's brilliant - they're so friendly and helpful, best bank you'll find :P Also get interest free overdraft for the year after uni, which is very helpful

Do you think I will still be able to get a natwest student account with a default on my credit file? I had a phone contract when I was 16 which didn't go very well and I ended up with a default. I already have a Natwest current account though.
