    Blatter on penalty shoot-outs
"If there is no winner at the end of 90 minutes of play, we would proceed directly to penalty kicks."
    - Sepp Blatter, 2010, talking about his love of penalty shoot-outs and how they should be used in all World Cup games

"Football can be a tragedy when you go to penalty kicks... Football should not go to one to one. When it goes to penalty kicks football loses its essence."
    - Sepp Blatter, 2012, talking about his hatred of penalty shoot-outs

What is wrong with this guy?

I'd like to see the golden goal. Simple, fair and effective method of ending a football match. The only problems are players get injuries/cramp and perhaps TV schedules/rights? :dontknow:

    What's wrong with him?

    He hates the English.

If Bayern had won the shootout, it would have been dramatic and glorious.

    I ****ing hate Blatter.

I'm a fan of the classic 30 minutes of extra time. It's like a second mini game. If you can't settle a game in 120 minutes then penalties is fair enough.

You want to know why i laughed and was eventually glad Chelski won?

Not because I am a fan, not because they're English but the very real fact the likes of Blatter cannot stand English teams.

He chatted to Bayerns coach for a bit and I was making up what he said; "why the **** didn't you win on penalties? The one time I want Germans to win on pens and you **** it up!"

    he is pathetic.

He never said anything during the 2006 World Cup final between France and Italy, did he?

Just remind him that England might win something then, he'll change his mind.

    Prick actually hates the English!

The man is hilarious, England lose on pens in 1990, 1996, 1998, 2004 and 2006 and theres no problem, an English team then beat a German team once and Blatters all upset :rofl2:

Penalties are awesome, love it when game (without my team in them) go to penalties. Nothing as horrible to watch yet as exciting in a few moments. I think, perhaps extra time should have golden goal, but even then it feels cheap. One moment and it over, rather than the goal then the other team throwing everything at them to try and equalise. Penalties are also the only time the goalkeeper really gets to be the hero. I think everything is fine the way it is.

Comical alternative. After 90mins, the team swaps with the staff. No longer about the quality and fitness of your players and bench, but now, how good is the physio in goal?

    Blatters gonna blatt.

I think it should go back to golden goal and then penalties.

Golden goal used to be so tense, when did they stop using it in the major competitions?

The man's a fool, nothing new there.

I do quite like penalty shoot-outs, still hanging on to the drama of Golden goal. They should bring that back though, the extra time period was generally a bit more exciting with the "next goal wins" playground style of game.

Silver ball? That way the team kicking off won't be able to win by scoring without being dispossed. The other team will have until the end of the period to equalise. I've done it on FIFA a few times (always victorious) but it feels like **** winning it like that.

Everybody loves a good old penalty shootout

I read somewhere that after 90minutes, each team should lose a player every few minutes till only the goalkeepers are left to fight it out
