    Class times?
How early do classes start for first years normally (for science courses in particular)?

9am will be your earliest, depending on the modules you take and scheduling, it could be 10am or 11am.

You should be done by 5pm (occasionally by 6) You'll have 50 minutes worth of lectures, so you should have 10 minutes break/moving time. Depending on the lecturer, you might start on time, or they might wait for 10 minutes so everyone can arrive - that kinda ruins the schedule though, as you'll finish on the hour, so not have enough time to move etc.

9am is the earliest potential lecture time, and theoretically they can go on until 6pm.

Each lecture is 50 minutes long (unless you have a double) with 10 mins to get to your next lecture.

thanks guys. Also, do either of you know how frequent labs are for the average science student?

a life science or chemistry; I've yet to make a decision.

For physics they spend one day a week in labs; I think it's 6 hours long. I would imagine that other sciences are on a par.

I'm a life scientist. First year you have one 3hr session in the lab a week in the first semester. In second semester you have three 3hr sessions a week for two weeks, two weeks off and then in the lab again for another two weeks (I hope that makes sense).

Not sure about second and final year, but I know second year you have to do a research module where the lab sessions are 6hrs long (though obviously you can have a break for lunch if you're waiting for a gel to run or something like that).
