    Restless leg syndrome?! :(
I have had this for a few years now, I will be sitting on the sofa/ in bed watching tv and I will feel the urge to move my legs suddenly, this is the worst sensation ever and it won't go away unless I stand up. Does anyone know of anything that can reduce this weirdness?!

    Thanks.

I hear it's related to back problems? I have very mild sciatica but only in my left leg...

Hmmm how often does this happen for you, as in every time you sit down and relax?

I get this but only when I've over-exercised. When I relax I get a really weird sensation in my legs, kind of like a big surge of energy so that I have to move them.

Some say lying with your legs on a few pillows so they're above your heart helps.

When I'm sitting down I get a constant urge to move my legs. It isn't really unpleasant though so it's probably not the same thing. I've had it since I can remember.

Okay, I haven't tried the pillow thing, I often cross my ankles though. This happens nearly every day, it happens when I do exercise and when I don't.

My dad has this and it drives me mad! I guess he doesn't really know he does it but whilst sitting in the lounge at night his legs are all over the place! It may sound weird for those reading this who've not witnessed it but I genuinely feel sorry for you guys, it must drive you mad!

I'd visit the doctor for advice because there are a lot of underlying reasons why people may get it.

I personally don't know much about it but I know that some people take diazepam to help. I suffer from chronic migraines and take an anti-epileptic convulsant drug called Gabapentin which is a bit of a wonder drug. As well as epilepsy, it is used for migraine prevention and also used in RLS with good results. A very similar medication is Pregabalin.

Note: both Gabapentin and Pregabalin can be taken long term with very few side effects, whereas Diazepam is unlikely to be prescribed as a first line drug.

Other than that I know you can take dopamine antagonists and opiods such as methadone to help.

Best thing to do is read up online so you get to understand the causes and treatments and then see your GP with this knowledge so you can really try and get to the bottom of it and find a solution.

Rybee, thanks for your help! I think I will go to the Doctors, I was a bit apprehensive because I didn't think it would be taken that seriously but it's more common than I thought! It drives me insane! Once I realise that my legs are going funny, it gets 1000x worse!!

Yeah I know what you mean... People go for all reasons and if it's irritating you then why not!? I pay my fair share of national insurance so I'll get my moneys worth thanks!

I use this site quite a lot to understand my medications and also read user reviews to compare how effective they are.

Have a look/read up here about various medications and people's reviews on them so you have a good understanding. As said, Gabapentin seems to be highly rated:

And here's Pregabalin (which I take for anxiety and it's been excellent for me!)

I've had this for years and it seems to get worse with age... get it in my arms sometimes too! It's the worst feeling ever being so exhausted but not able to sleep because of this energy/tingling going through your legs. And it's so hard to explain to people and be taken seriously.

I went to the doctor about it and he put me on Mirapexin. It's medication they give to people with Parkinson's, and it really does help. One or two a few hours before bed and I'm grand! Only problem is that it can make you feel a little bit drowsey/spaced out sometimes the next day, but it's so worth it!
