I have not been wearing my teeth retainers for a while...
... and i have an appointment coming up soon! I haven't worn them for a few months, and obviously they wouldn't fit now. Is there anyway of pushing my teeth back in a way that my orthodontist didn't notice? I know, I am stupid for letting this happen, but i hated them. It is my last appointment too (in 3 weeks) and he will prolong the process maybe because of this, although he said you have to wear the retainers for a long time (the rest of your life) because your teeth go back - as mine have - I have only meant to have been wearing them since October (but my last app was in January). What to do?

Did you dislike having straight teeth?

Why the hell would you only want your teeth to go back so your orthodontist doesn't find out? Surely, you'd want them because you liked having straight teeth? :lolwut:

I had to pay a couple thousand pounds to get nice teeth because I only just didn't qualify for NHS treatment. This makes me sad. :'(

well, you need new retainers. they have a hefty price tag sadly, but if you don't get new ones your teeth will just continue going back to what they were before the treatment. I did exactly the same as you, and didn't get new retainers. As a result my bottom jaw is like it has never had treatment.

TWO GRAND?! For a few tiny metal brackets and a cheap metal wire? That's not right

Are you a student because you can get them free if you are.

I wore mine for as long as they told me to and my teeth have still moved

Gonna see what they recommend for me next week, hope I don't need braces again.

    Really? That's terrible

When I first got my retainer I was told to wear it without taking it off for about 48 hours (!) and then after that, only at bedtime, for as long as possible, I wore them for probably a couple of years (having stopped about 2-3 years ago) and mine haven't moved at all.

I was told to wear them day and night for 6 weeks, taking them off for meals, then just at night after that.

I did so, and it's been about two months now and they've started going wonky again already and my retainer doesn't fit properly

This has happened to me a few times, I normally just wear them for like a week before, it's really painfull at first, so I had to wear them in the day for the beggining and by the end of the week you can wear them at night aswell. Yeah they may prolong the process a bit, I didn't wear mine for 4 months and now have to wear them for another 6 months. Don't stress about it your orthodontist won't really care, they normally just ask me if i forgot to wear them (because wearing them for a week pushes them back enough its not obvious you never wear them) and I just say that I lost them for like a month or something, but now I'm wearing them again. So just go to your orthodontist and I really doubt they'll even care.

There’s no point trying to hide it from your dentist. You’re better off admitting that you haven’t worn it for a few months and see what the dentist suggests. I don’t know anything about dentistry but it might be possible for them to fix it without you having to have another brace, or they might fit you with another retainer to stop them moving anymore.

It really isn’t much of a hassle to wear your retainer. I had my braces taken off about two years ago and I just wear mine one night a week which is enough to stop them moving.

Re: I have not been wearing my teeth retainers for a while...
I stopped using mine after my last (ever) appointment. My bottom teeth have moved so a couple overlap at the front, I took it from that that there just isn't enough space for my teeth to fit comfortably in a line. My top teeth are still in line and they were terrible before, I haven't worn my retainer for at least 3 years now and after the initial movement of the bottom ones, that was pretty much it. I'm happy with how they look and my dentist hasn't mentioned the fact they they've moved. I didn't want to be like the american's who get told to wear their retainers forever. I tried putting it on again a few months ago and the bottom one cracked so I threw them away.

I never wore my retainers, and going on 5 years my teeth are still fine.

Before I got the actual braces, I had to wear a metal retainer, and i lost that, I left it on my lunch tray. That cost about £150 to repair, but I don't know how much this would cost.

I love having straight teeth (I look less goofy) but retainers doesn't affect how straight they are anyway, it bring all of my now straight teeth back though.
