Retaking after getting a D in January. Don't know what happened really. I think I just wasn't paying any attention at all to what I was doing and ended up making simple errors on the big mark questions. For example, I went back over the paper yesterday and realised that everytime I integrated ex/4 I put 4/xex/4 instead of 4ex/4. For some reason I didn't see x/4 as 1/4 x. That amongst many other stupid errors just sucked all the marks out of my paper.

Aiming for an A overall (I need AAA to get my place at medical school). Got 89% over C1, C2 and S1, so only need to get 71% over C3, C4 and S2 to get the A overall. I think that's the only thing keeping me sane really.

Been going through past papers (again) and I once again seem to be able to do the majority of things on them. So hopefully January was just a one off. I've also started doing Solomon papers to try and stop myself being thrown by the big 7/8/9 markers that AQA suddenly decided to throw into both C3 and C4 in January.

Good luck to everyone else doing the paper.

They are papers written by a company called Solomon Press aimed at Edexcel students mainly. They are basically questions that don't guide you through questions step-wise like AQA and just make you do a big long question for 6,7,8 marks, a bit like what happened in the Jan paper.

I am really, really sorry but the link my friend downloaded them from (and then printed off for me) has now been shutdown because it's a dodgy area. You can search around for them but I don't know whether you will have much luck :/ I regret mentioning them now that they're no longer accessible.

Edit: If you are also sitting Core 4 (I know a lot of people who are sitting C3 are resitting from Jan and doing C4 in June too), there is a link to the C4 Solomon papers here: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show...2004642&page=4, but I'm not 100% sure it will work.

I just did a google search and found this
    http://webfronter.com/waltham-forest...ce_Papers.html

Are those the correct solomon papers? Or is it something completely different
I think it'll be useful for me to do something new, I've done the aqa papers one too many times haha..

Yes, those are the correct papers. You're obviously a lot better at searching for things than people I've spoken to about it :P

Just bear in mind that they tend to overlap some of the modules, so you will end up with a few C2-type questions as well as C4-type questions. Can be useful if, like me, you're revising for C2 or C4 as well, but saying that I have myself skipping questions that involve other modules because I'm lazy.

I know what you mean about the AQA papers. I did them all 2 or 3 times over in January so now it's just tedious.

Unless AQA do us over with another heroic lineup of 9 mark, 7 mark, 7 mark then I think it will be reasonable. Expect a difficult big marker though.

I really don't know! After January, I would expect them to set an easier paper, providing they realised how difficult the Jan paper was. But my teacher has always said to us for the past 2 years that exams where most candidates will be resit candidates tend to be more difficult because exam baords expect you to improve your ability if you're resitting. So on that basis it should be harder.

Really hope it's a straightforward paper with a few challenging questions instead of 4 really easy questions followed by 3 really difficult, weirdly written questions.

Kinda scared that this will be a hard paper as apparently core 2 was a mean paper :/
I got low B in January, need 86 ums to get A overall this time round! (due to my hatred for mechanics)

It's just so annoying because looking back through the paper in January, it doesn't seem too bad! I think it's just that most people panicked in the exam, I know i defo did aha

I've got a feeling it will be a nasty integration by parts question this time as it was substitution in jan...we shall soon see!

    Good luck everyone!

Jan had both parts and substitution. The parts question was "a twicer" as my teacher calls them, where you had to do by parts twice to find the final answer. We might see both of them come up again.

I know, but the substitution one was harder! They may even go one better and give us be where we have to integrate by parts three times! Now that would be interesting :P

Integration by subsitution is not so difficult, but you need to be careful some careless mistake, like after you find du/dx have to change into dx/du and then subsitute into the equation to integrat it,usually you have to take the constant out of the integal, sometimes we also need to change u to a subject. And remember if there have limit, then we must change it as well, but change limit only for subsitution:cool:
    Good luck everyone:P

Thanks yeah it's not so difficult but I always panic in the exam! Like in January I originally put the square root of cot^2x is cotx (which is right) but then started checking my workings half way through the question and changed it to cot^2x, which is just stupid! Haha :P

I'm going to attempt some of the soloman papers because I've finished all the past-papers.

    I am fairly confident with C3; I got 71/75 in the January 2012 past-paper.

Who else is aiming for as close to full UMS as possible (for an A*)?

Hey guys Just found this thread! I got a C in January -_- and I need an A to get into Warwick! :L I hope its not that hard, and being ironic as it was, I was able to do the 9 marker question as soon as I got back from the exam -______- I'm so glad I'm also doing AS Further Maths this year so my application modules can all switch round to get the best possible mark xD

Good Luck everyone! Luckily, my college have uploaded all the Soloman papers onto our intranet moodle page thing xD
