Would you talk me through your chain rule working for this? I don't tend to use it very much and then when it comes to the complicated questions I can't do it in my head
chain rule are very common for the examiner put into the exam paper,so you need to practice more, you have to remember some special question type for using chain rule, usually, when you can't think about how to use product/quotient rule to differentiate the questions then you can try chain rule Do more pp may help you to understand it

I need to go through more papers just in case but that will be after my Russian A2 exam today.
I made the silliest mistake ever last night on a paper - 3+2=1
In the real exam I will go through the paper first then check for silly mistakes. I've mastered all integration by parts and substitution already so I'm ready for another nine marker beast.
To get an A* i think i just need to make my careless mistake as few as possible, usually under the exam condition I usually make so many stupid mistake, fortuately I have extra time,so I have enough time to go throug the paper again:rolleyes:

Hoping for a similar paper to January - got 88 in that. I should've done better but I panicked when I saw the 9 marker - hardly got any marks on it. I'll keep my cool this time though knowing I've already got a decent grade

    I have extra time too!

And even though I do get As on Solomon papers and aqa past papers, I don't want to make basic errors like three plus two is one, which I shouldn't have.

    It's integration but substitution.

    Lets say: 1+2x=u

    du/dx = 2

    0.5 du = dx

    so INTEGRAL = 0.5u^-0.5 du

Intergrate it and you get: (0.5u^0.5)/0.5
    = u^0.5
    = (1+2x)^0.5 + c

    Hope that helped

Getting vary marks from 53 up to 73 lol....
Should really stop watching stuff(game of thrones) and listening to tunes whilst doing these pps ... seriously making careless mistakes cause the qs are very much following the same format which marked it so boring...

Need an A* to meet a scholarship offer. I'm pretty confident with C4 - but I've got a lot of other exams congested in that week. So I'd rather get as many marks as possible from C3, so I'm a bit more relaxed going into C4.

its because when you look at the domain, it goes from something like -4 < x < 1 (can't remember the exact values), and obviously only -4 is within that interval

Does this mean that the paper is available online?
I would really like to have a go at the Jan 2012 paper but I couldn't find it in the AQA library!

i just need some clarification on what theyv done from step 1 in the mark scheme. are they starting from the RHS? and what is the expression given in the comments section for that first part?

    thanks a lot guys

I'm actually jealous of you guys. These papers are so easy. When I did it last year i got 96UMS.

Edit: Don't be hating. They are easy compared to university exams. When I was doing my A levels I maybe reserved 2 days to revise for each maths exam and got 5 results of 90~ or above. I could have a got a lot more considering my A levels. As long as you know the material, which isn't difficult for core units and around 6 others, then the answers are virtually spoonfed to you. Doing past papers is ideal too but it's not overly difficult.
Haha I actually like this post, makes me feel better. With the edit of course.

For this question, they're not using "RHS" or anything, it's because they've asked for the quotient rule, so you take u=1, du/dx = 0 (as 1 differentiates to 0), v= sinx and dv/dx= cosx, and then you do the quotient rule as normal. Hope this helps!

Hey, I replied to the other guys question...

its because when you look at the domain for one of them, can't remember whether its f(x) or g(x) it goes from something like -4 < x < 1 (can't remember the exact values), and obviously only -4 is within that interval
