I did this to my PC. It is okay if you know what you are doing. You will find a crap load of dust stuck everywhere so do this on a hard floor.

Just be very gentle and make sure you don't bump anything- there are many vids on youtube that can help you. Seriously just don't break anything! Otherwise it is safe. You should clean your fan often because it could overheat your laptop if not. My hard drive melted .

The problem is most likely to be the laptop fan loaded with dust.
Don't do it with a vacuum, with a can of compressed air, or just your hands.

If you do it correctly, then damaging the components as a risk is quite minimal.
I suggest you get compressed air which was specifically made for such tasks.

A small brush could work, but you won't be able to get dust out easily.

By the way, what laptop make and model do you have?

acer aspire 5740g, theres no way for me to open my laptop and get to the fan as you can have to like take everything out... soo apprently i just spray the compressed air into the cpu vent ?

Spray in the intake. Also, STOP THE FAN FROM SPINNING. If the fan spins at a higher rpm than it's designed to, you can ruin it and it'll hum loudly. :/

    Good luck.
