the more i go to the gym the more tired im getting?!
Dont know if this makes sense, but basically for about 3 weeks ive been going to the gym Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Swimming Tuesday and running Thursday.
Do 25 min treadmill, 25 min bike and 3 sets of 12 reps on all the strength stuff. (abdominals, leg press, biceps, triceps, pull down, row, shoulder press, chest press)
The problem is every time i go i seem to get more tired than i did when i first started going, even though im doing exactly the same.
Today I could barely push the shoulder press, even though ive had it on the same weight for the past 3 weeks.
And i got tired so much sooner on the treadmill than before.
Im eating the exact same, so its not an energy thing.
If im being really stupid or doing a wrong routine or whatever can someone tell me! Thanks

Re: the more i go to the gym the more tired im getting?!
You aren't eating enough, you're probably eating into fat reserves and now that those are slowly fading mixed with poor diet you are just wearing yourself away to nothing. And no, size 0 is not attractive and you will look ****ing awful if you ever achieve it.
Also, what is ''all the strength'' stuff? -

just the machines like abdominals, leg press, back extension, chest, pull down, shoulder press, biceps, triceps, row etc.
Not the free weights, too scared to enter that area yet
and i dont want to be size 0

Re: the more i go to the gym the more tired im getting?!If you were informed enough to know how much you should be eating you should be informed enough to critically analyse your program and see why you are tired all the time.
It could be iron deficiency, it could be serious lack of food due to girls guilted out of putting calories in their mouth in modern culture, it could be that you don't get enough sleep to recover, it could be all of the above.
If you're going to cross out anything someone puts forward then enjoy being tired all the time.
Regards. -

Re: the more i go to the gym the more tired im getting?!i pobably eat around 2000 calories a day(Original post by Jtking3000)
The amount of times I hear women say this then can't even give a rough estimate of what their daily macros or even calories are....
I hope you're an exception.

Re: the more i go to the gym the more tired im getting?!Nowhere near enough, heres a breakdown of roughly what you're using (using average weights and moderate intensities here as you've not given anything to go on)
~300 calories burned from running
~250 from cycling
~400 from weightlifting
~500 calories for building muscle after the weightlifting
so by the end of the day you're down to 550 calories and that's without counting any of your day to day activity (walking about the house, walking to the shop, standing up for any period of time without even doing anything)
unless you're completely sedentary when you're not in the gym you're trying to operate on nearly 0 calories before even factoring in whatever your base metabolisms is (between 1400-1800 for most people)
at the very least you should be on 1000 calories more than that
like chrislpp said, you're not eating enough. -
Re: the more i go to the gym the more tired im getting?!i doubt i burn much calories weightlifting because im only the small weights like 5-45 kg depending on which machine im on.(Original post by almasy)

Re: the more i go to the gym the more tired im getting?!Don't be sorry, just take into account what others are saying. I'm confused as to why you've come onto an internet forum to ask for advice then refuse to take it when given it.(Original post by pinkangelgirl)

I doubt thats the right amount your giving, 250 for cycling for 30 minutes?? 400 for weightlifting??? It all depends on the intensity of her workouts.
Your not being dumb but you need to learn the basics, firstly are you trying to lose weight or gain weight?(Original post by pinkangelgirl)

You said that your not eating any different then before, but you need to realise when you exercise your body needs those calories back (unless you losing weight then you should be at a deficit in your diet).
Also 2000 calories need to come from some sort of nutritious foods or some good carbs. -
Re: the more i go to the gym the more tired im getting?!OP, ignore this post, this guy is vastly overexaggerating the amount of calories you use through exercise.(Original post by almasy)

If you truly are eating 2000 cals a day (and only you know that since you can't/won't tell us what you eat each day) then you're probably alright.
Did you used to do any exercise at all before you started this regime 3 weeks ago? You could well need more rest. You're doing a lot, not many rest days. How much sleep do you get?
If you're doing the same weight movements every session, that means you're doing them all 3 times a week? No wonder your muscles feel tired. They need time to recover.Last edited by Arturo Bandini; 25-05-2012 at 20:21. -
Re: the more i go to the gym the more tired im getting?!
Your doing too much draining your body. i was doing the same thing, getting really tired and after gym not being able to do any work. If your looking to build strength and not lose energy then increase the weight and drop to 3-5 reps per set about 3 sets on one-four machines. if your looking to get fitter and more lean stick to light weight high reps- but you'll be exhausted after every workout. If you want to do the later stick to a about 2-3 exercises when you train and DON'T do weights and cardio on the same day that way you'll get leaner and fitter without losing too much energy! hope this helps!
PS i would recommend strength stuff (eg arms) on one day then next day cardio and the next day strength stuff (different muscle group eg legs) next day cardio and so on. plan your workouts and make sure you rest for 30secs-2mins between sets.

Re: the more i go to the gym the more tired im getting?!Weightlifting raises your metabolism trying to recover, it doesn't matter if you squat 20kgs or 200kgs, if you're squatting 70% of your 1rm for reps then its going to hurt your body a lot.(Original post by pinkangelgirl)

when i go on the bike/treadmill i enter my weight and then it tells me how many calories i burn. Today the bike said 185 and the treadmill said 265. Although i dont know how accurate they are.
Im not really trying to lose weight- though it would be nice. Im more trying to gain muscle.
tbh its probably my diet i need to sort out- too much junk food at the mo
