Additional further maths AS and A2
For anyone who has done this qualification, do you think it is possible realistically to do and get 90+ in c3/c4/fp2/fp3/m2/m3/m4/m5/s2/s3/s4/d2 all in one year (Starting from the 2nd of June, learning them) alongside physics and economics A2, as well as sitting AEA or STEP; and can anyone also give me their thoughts about the modules, i.e. their difficulty, length of time they take to learn.
-
Re: Additional further maths AS and A2yes, if thats all you're doing the entire year, its more than doable considering you're A) good at maths and B) have good foundation of knowledge before you start (at least A* GCSE).. i would recommend starting now.(Original post by .Username.)

Re: Additional further maths AS and A2Hmmm yeah true; but i like a challenge, btw have you/or are you doing AFM(Original post by Ilyas)
Why do you want to do such a task? I wouldn't say all that maths is impossible, but comebined with physics and economics A2 it will be a too much for any normal human. -
Re: Additional further maths AS and A2I have a decent foundation i.e. got 100 in c1, and 99.9% sure i got 100 in M1 and C2 (i know there easy exams but what more can i do lol), and ill start after my fp1 exam which is the first of june; also did you do additional further maths, if so can you tell more about it e.g. difficulty of modules(Original post by SexyNerd)

Re: Additional further maths AS and A2you should be fine than, just need to work hard...(Original post by .Username.)

Re: Additional further maths AS and A2
Possible if you work hard consistently, but it'll be difficult to do that solidly for a year. Also depends to an extent on what your offers would be (and which STEP papers you're taking)... if you're going for Cambridge maths I really wouldn't do the extra 6 maths modules, 1,1 is hard enough

Re: Additional further maths AS and A2
im doing additional further maths AS and A2 this year- aiming for an A*
its actually ok tbh, im doing fp1/fp2/s2/s3/d2/d1/m2 (one extra module to ensure i get the 90 as im crap at m2)
i think, it depends on your strengths really, i like pure maths and stats so it takes me less time to study for them.
it is possible!

Re: Additional further maths AS and A2Get C3 and C4 learned as soon as possible, they're gonna be your foundation for lots of other things. Keep practicing them whilst you're learning other modules as well, you need time to familiarise yourself with basic trig, integration, etc.(Original post by .Username.)
What order do you reckon, i should learn these modules
You can start the FP modules after this, and M2/3 as well - try to finish the content by at least March-April, because they take more exam practice to get 90+ than the others. M4/5 can be learned relatively quickly after these (you need some FP2 differential equations and FP3 integration/vectors I think) - I haven't even started M5 yet. You might want to start mechanics before FP, to give you time to get to grips with core first.
S2/S3 are pretty easy but boring, it's just rote work. I haven't done S4 or D2, but I'd imagine they're similar. I wouldn't leave them till the last minute though, might as well get them out of the way quickly.
You'll probably want to do all the January modules you can (I think c3/c4/m2/s2 - since more advanced modules you can only do in June). And regarding STEP... for I/II you need up to C4 and M2 (dunno about stats, most people focus on pure/mech in step), and all FP and M modules for III. So if you're serious about it get those modules done asap, you'll want to be practicing from January at least. But you haven't told us what you'd need to get, so I dunno exactly how you should structure this -
Re: Additional further maths AS and A2Well im hoping to get 3 A* in the 3 maths a levels + 2 A's in physics and economics; till now ive done c1/c2/m1/fp1(in a couple of days will be done)/d1/s1; if i want to sit AEA and STEP, when should i finish all the modules, to prepare for them?(Original post by scherzi)

I will start c3/c4 straight away from first of june; and ill sit c3/c4/m2/m3/s2 all in jan......do you think fp2/fp3/m4/m5/s3/s4/d2 can be done in 5 and a half - 6 months, on top of preparation of AEA/STEP
(im on edexcel for maths if that helps) -
Re: Additional further maths AS and A2So after the actual M4 exam, I'd say don't bother doing this - you can see this thread to see the potential pain induced. Exam wise, just take what you need for university. You could still study the rest if you want and enter for them if you don't mind wasting money. If you're doing it for an edge over other applicants when applying for uni, I don't think the marginal benefit would be worth the effort. In answer to your actual question - well it's not impossible, in the sense that many possible things are virtually impossible. fp2/fp3/m4/m5/s3/s4/d2 on top of AEA/STEP, in 6 months... unless you enjoy doing nothing but studying/past papers, you'll be miserable and stressed out come crunch time (it's not so much the concepts that require work as the practice needed to get the highest marks, and eventually, as with any rote work, this gets boring)(Original post by .Username.)
