, is it possible to get an A without mentioning the names of Sociologists?

I find it so much easier to remember the theories/arguments/points without attempting to remember the name of the sociologists.

So I'm wondering, is it possible to get an A without mentioning the sociologists name? Instead saying Researchers or sociologists.

Obviously for Marxist and Functionalists sections of the topics for Education, Crime and Religion you need to mention the big names such as Marx, Althusser, Willis Durkheim and Parson etc.

But do I need to remember names like Murray and Mirza and the countless of other god knows names? :s-smilie:

It isn't impossible, you only get a certain amount of A01 marks for names - so obviously you'd lose marks for not using them, but you can still get an A if your essay is almost perfect beyond that.

Beyond perfect? So a decent/good essay won't be enough. Hmm

i did scly2 aqa in jan and got 90/120 without mentioning a single name, i could have got an A easily had i answered the smaller questions better.

and the grade boundaries were slightly higher in jan

Of course, though, if you use the names you've already mentioned you should be okay, but I would advise you learn a few more.

For the Crime unit, I learnt around four names for each topic and I got an A, so you won't have to learn an absolute ton.

Thanks and what's Conceptual Knowledge? Heard that term plenty of times but haven't got a clue what that means.

conceptual knowledge is one of the requirements needed to get into the highest mark band.

it means you are able to use ideas of other socialists very well, you have understood the concept they are conveying:

so for example for famalies if the question was discuss functionalist views on nuclear famalies, conceptual knowledge would be for example using murdock 4main functions of the famaly. as one form of discussion

hope that helps
