Woo! Well done to both sides but I feel in the end that common sense prevailed.

Time to celebrate. All rise for the most apt celebratory anthem.

Meh. Good campaign from both sides, but I'm not entirely surprised by the results considering general public opinion at the moment (though I'm pretty glad at an increase in republicanism from RL).

He's too set on making an impact, I think, he's already been out discussing being an 'active monarch'! What in gods name that means I don't know, but it sounds terrifying!

Really? :afraid: Wow, that does sound... ominous. Wonder if he's planning appoint the Green Party to government if they introduce a policy making it compulsory to talk to your plants.

Well done to the victorious yes campaign, and it of course shows the continuing popularity of the monarchy and Her Majesty in Britain today.

60% isn't just a narrow majority, it's a well earned victory for the yes campaign.

    God save the Queen.

Why do you insist on putting that irritating <3 x at the end of every post?
Really? Is that the level you've reached? :nope:

Surprising that these poll figures exactly match the online poll I just read in the daily mail online.

"But even among those under 35, the youngest age group and the one generally thought most sympathetic to abolition, some 59 per cent would rather have a sovereign than a president."

Don't usually read the Daily Mail, but citing it merely as a reference, so please don't judge

It serves no purpose and no one else here feels the need to do it. What does '<3 x' even mean?

Ironic, democratically voting to keep an undemocratic head of state.... I have said it before and I shall say it again, the electorate are morons.
I think you have summed up what is wrong with having a republic. If the electorate are morons how can they possibly pick a suitable head of state?

(I don't actually think the electorate are stupid, I am merely staing his logical fallacy.)

Edit: Not quite sure how this can be negged, I haven't said anything rude or controversial; would you like to reply instead of just hiding behind your neg.

Well I wouldn't do it if everyone else did it. I like having one thing that singles me out as me. I do it on all post I make on line, and its just me.

And it means nothing more than individuality.

Is this about changing the name, or getting rid of the monarchy? (Either way I really can't see the point. Let's try and fix poverty, war, famine and disease first.)

The use of democracy to extend an undemocratic institution is what bothers me, the Monarchy has brought much good to the country and I can see why people wish to extend our heritage though The British Empire is just one of the many parts of our history, that the Monarchy has been pivotal to, that I am deeply ashamed of.

Regardless, TSR has spoken though hopefully our next generation has more sense
Haven't you just out-argued yourself there? If an institution is in power because a democratic vote made it so, then surely that makes the institution democratic? If the institution was in power against the will of the people, it would, by definition, be undemocratic. But "the people have spoken!", and the people ruled in favour of the monarch, so the opposite is true.

To sum up, how can an institution be viewed as undemocratic if "the rule of the people" is that it should be in place?

Yeah, I think Charles on the throne would be ideal for Republicans. It's inconceivable that he'll be anything other than a meddling, irritating Monarch, a far cry from the relatively sane Queen, and even the hardcore monarchists who get a hard on every time they see HRH in front of a person's name will have trouble defending him. And possibly a Queen Camilla, oh God. :puke:

Yes but I'd rather have someone that will be gone within 4-5 years than someone who is there for life as you can change presidents and you have bring in VoNC etc however what can you do with the King or Queen? nothing.

Ohh ok... but why's that? I mean, I have as much as an opinion as the next person voting on here
In case nobody answered this, it's just a measure to stop people rigging the vote by setting up loads of accounts and voting multiple times. Sorry you couldn't vote, don't worry, there will be more referenda.

    And possibly a Queen Camilla.
She can't be Queen, she can't even be a Princess, she will still be the Duchess of Cornwall.
